Texas state Senate, voted with out debate and passed to the House, a bill that would make it a crime for a governmental agency to post a no carry sign. Interesting.

This bill would make any governmental agency that prohibit the carrying of a concealed handgun in areas where licensed Texans should be allowed to carry them. Licensed Texas people with concealed permits etc. The idea is those of us with the license to carry are being prohibited from our 2nd amendment rights.

I'm curious about this one. Currently we are prohibited from conceal carry when we go in and renew our vehicle registration, for example. Ridiculous.

I'm wondering about the County Court House when we go for jury duty, to get a marriage license etc. We currently are prohibited from there.

It would be a fine, starting at $1500 per offense up to $10,000 on repeat offenses.

This should prove interesting.

Well... CHL holders are already allowed to carry in the State Capitol, so why not be able to lawfully carry in other Government agencies?

As far as being voted upon without discussion...The thing is... The State Senate is controlled by the Pro 2A and therefore can pretty much win every 2A related Bill. The State House though, is another issue. While the Republicans do have the simple majority of the House, I don't know if a Bill only needs a Simple Majority vote (in the House), or if it requires more like a 2/3 majority to pass there.

We CHP holders in Virginia can carry in county & state buildings except for court houses or police stations. We can open carry in the state capital building if we have a CHP.

What things need to change in N.C.

My opinion of changes for N.C.: The places that allow concealed carry may be outnumbered by those where its forbidden or I just frequent the forbidden areas to much: Any Federal Government Building, anywhere admission is charged, sporting events included, U.S. Post Office, even some of the county owned buildings not yet occupied by same have "No Gun Signs" posted. I continue to be mystified by the fact that its legal for me to carry some places but not others, part time trustworthiness. Once I have met all the requirements there should be no limitations In MY Opinion!

I think the question is better stated as, "Why should you need a permit for mere possession of a handgun?"

If we were to apply strict Constitutional scrutiny to such a law, what is the great benefit to public safety that justifies an infringement of the Second Amendment?

Most states do not require any sort of permit to purchase and possess in your home or other property a handgun. None of them seem to have unusually high levels of crime due to that fact.

Before you say it, yes MA does require a permit to buy ANY firearm. And yes, that has been fought and lost in court, but the fight continues.

Counter intuitively, while a permit may be harder to get in MA, we have very few restrictions on where we can carry. Courts (by order of the chief justice of the state courts) are off limits. Schools of course, although that's sort of silly. Other venues can post signs, but they are not binding. The most a place can do is ask you to leave, but if you carry concealed, you're mostly OK.

NC, on the other hand has along list of prohibited places. I believe it also had, until recently, a law that allowed the Governor to declare a state of emergency and order confiscation of guns and temporary nullification of concealed carry permits.

Overall, I don't consider NC to be very firearms friendly and that's one of the reasons it's not on the list of places to which I'd consider relocation.

Of course, you might consider that a plus! ;)

As to Texas, it too has a lot of restricted by law locations, but I think their gun laws are overall pretty good and getting better.

One has more freedom to operate a 2,000 - 4,000 pound machine and it's not even a right than one does to carry a firearm. A car or truck can be just as deadly as a firearm and kills and maims a heck of a lot more people but you don't see the government trying to limit or ban them or whole groups dedicated to that cause. But yet the government and whole groups of people are fighting tooth and nail to ban a right. Driving is a privilege, even if it is a necessary one in this day and age. One does not have the Canstitutional right to drive a vehicle.

Texas House Bill 910

It looks like we have a good chance of getting the open carry bill passed. You have to wonder why we are lagging behind others but at least now we are closer I guess I need to be shopping for on open carry for the 9mm M&P or carry the .44 mag that is holstered. That might seem like overkill to some. Oops didn't mean to say "overkill", I meant over deter.
