Knowledge, the most powerful tool when carrying concealed

You know, I understand the need to know your laws in your jurisdiction.
I don't understand why, though.
What I mean is why is it so hard to determine what you can do based on where you are at?
What happened to common sense law abiding citizen self defense?
I kind of like the thinking of the 1800's west....If you try to rob me or kill me or a friend of mine, I can legally shoot you. End of story. If you don't want to be shot, don't threaten my life.
I guess I'm just a dinosaur.
In Ohio, when not in home or vehicle, I have a duty to ATTEMPT to retreat.

ALL that means is that I have a duty to TRY to disengage, IF I can do so IN PERFECT SAFETY.

That does NOT require me to turn my back and run, much less try to outrun a bullet.

In Ohio, the duty to retreat isn't a license to rob people.

If you try to rob somebody here, you stand a non-zero chance of getting shot for your trouble, and the person doing the shooting stands a VERY slight chance of being prosecuted.

And if you DO get shot trying to rob somebody, you (or your mutant family) can sue until you're blue in the face. You can't recover a penny.

We don't believe in rewarding incompetent holdup men for their incompetence.

Or Good Guys so long as they are not carrying as part of their job. (LEOs excluded of course.) I could carry a 357 loaded with magnum rounds as a private citizen but not as a security guard or PI.

Yes, that's exactly why my comment was directed at the legislators who purposely put LEOs in a deficit position regarding the .38 / .357 ammo.

Oh, yeah, we are in total agreement I was just continuing my rant.

Our local legislator to the state house is running on a pro-gun platform this year. (Gun rights are suddenly a huge part of the political platform this year across the country, imagine that.)

While he is still a candidate and actually talking to and maybe even listening to the average Joe I am at least bringing these things up to the likely winner. (Pretty pro-gun owner in the district I live.)

I hold little hope that I will make a difference but if enough gun owners bring it up then maybe, just maybe some things will change to a more common sense wording.
