Lack of interest in 40 SW yet 10MM is getting popular??

I don't believe that's correct.

A quick GB search shows 417 pages of "new" .40 cal pistols for sale. Something like 20-25 of those pages are ammo, the rest are pistols from varied gun mfgrs.
I said in the United States. Smith & Wesson and Glock are the only two manufacturers domestically producing 40 caliber pistols. The others are foreignly produced.

40 short-and-weak is still a GREAT caliber.

Problem is, everybody already has eleven-teen copies of 40 in their footlocker. Something about twelve-teen just sounds silly, so its not cool to buy another one unless you're gonna do something like convert it to 357 SIG - in which case people complain about cost and scarcity of 357 SIG ammo, and the extra steps needed to reload it.

So 10mm re-appears out of the weeds. And even some pretty decent affordable 10mm ammo. So awesome-sauce. Even though a 38 Special will still do 99% of what anyone would ever need a handgun to do. And I have a box of them too.

Most of the time I carry a little 380 that fits in the watch-pocket of my dad jeans. I even wash the jeans. Sometimes.
I "practice" with it at double the distance I'd ever likely use it for the purpose I carry it for.

This gif of me with my 380, and pointing it at the camera, seems to really annoy some people. I aint never had to shoot anyone with it. So I don't really know if it's any good. I put 100 rounds through it at the range. Seems to work. I even bought a second one. And it works too. I have several 10mm guns. And a bunch of 40's and 38 Specials. Problem is, they're all too big to fit in my pocket.

I doubt I'll buy any more 40's.
At least not until 40 becomes cool again.

I've never used the sights or the safety.
But I do shoot low-left sometimes.

I was so excited that they started selling 10mm 1911's for $400 that I bought two of them.

It will even shoot 40 short-and-weak. And so will my 10mm Glocks.
Just know that if you shoot 40 in your 10mm, its hard on the extractor, because the cartridge is now headspacing with the rim hung on the extractor, instead of the mouth of the case against the inside of the chamber.

Very cool gun.
I did have to do a few "adjustments" on the extractor-tension, and the slide-lock to get it to behave. It seems mostly dialed now.

$400 (about) gets you this.
I had to jack the rear sight up to just about its elevation limit. And I dialed it way right.
Because I "hold it wrong," which causes my groups to land low left.
I refuse to "hold it right." I will NOT do it.

Local FBI guys told me the real reason they dropped the 40 SW was that many agents could not qualify with it. They would be given a 9mm to carry in such cases and finally they just went to 9mm.` I was able to shoot one of their entry team MP-10- 2 shot burst SMG in 10mm- wow best gun I ever shot for that purpose.

I still shoot 40 SW and since I've gotten old and have arthritis I prefer that over my 45 1911's if I'm doing any amount of shooting. I was teach a class last month and one of the students asked how he could disposed of 2000 rounds of 40 SW as he had gone to 9mm- hey I know a guy LOL.

If your in a 10 round state then yes 40 SW is a great round for ccw.

I had several tell me the same thing. And it was ALL females who couldn't shoot them. Not surprised.

May I suggest you line up several gallon jugs filled with water. See how many get penetrated with your carry ammo? I've done this & have gotten surprised, both good & bad.

So, I just picked up an Astra A70 in .40 S&W and accidentally won a long shot auction for a Taurus Pt-101 in .40 S&W as well. Whoops!

But for a sunk cost of $350, I really can't complain. I'll probably pare down the one I like less???

Yep, left that part out. When I was a cop everyone was a vet or gun nut- now they want non military college kids who have never seen a gun before the academy. Was told border patrol had to go to optic sights as new recruits could not get the hang of iron sights.

I figure in 2 years LE agencies in the good ole USA will be issuing a full size duty size 380acp pistol , that is assuming they can handle a 26 to 30 oz empty pistol weight !. After all , softer weaker people will need softer shooting handgun.
