My first centerfire was a 686-3 6" back in the late 80's or early 90's. I shot that gun early and often. It led to a total of 2 dozen Smiths before I was done. Then I suffered some set-backs and found myself a single Dad with more guns than money. You know the rest of the story. That was 15 years ago. I've been building up a new collection and I got seduced by Sig 40's. They are great pistols and I'll always have a couple around.

I tried to make them shoot like my 686's always have but when you want tiny little groups nothing has ever beat my Smiths. I currently have a 4" 686-6 and a 8 3/8" 686 no dash. I'll have a 6" and a 2.5" soon enough and the family will be reunited. When I really want to show-off I reach for one of them.
