I just got a new BG380 made 4/15. It appears to have a forged barrel. I had heard that all the new ones have MIM barrels. Is this a new change?

Mine was ordered late may.. Forged barrel as well. Guess they got some feedback and realized it wasn't a great idea to switch to MIM?

Its a KCD serial. What is yours?

6/2014, KBWXXX here and I have the forged barrel as far as I can tell.

From what I've read, S&W got a lot of bad feedback after switching to the MIM barrel. I don't think it's a "worse" part, but looks like they've switched back to forged to make people happy.

I've got KBVXXXX, 5/2014. No ridge on the top, 380 AUTO engraved on the top, BG 380 engraved on the side. From the above link, my barrel appears to be the forged.

The sad part is, the BG 380 has had it's share of issues without this coming up. Why manufacturers continue to make these changes to save very little is beyond me. MIM might be okay on these pistols, but I guarantee that everyone that reads these two threads will be checking their BG to see if their BG is one that got the MIM barrel. Just another thing for all to worry about, will this MIM barrel stand up to the test?

I had an early 90's Ford Bronco and had to replace the radiator twice, Ford's better idea, let's save money, go to plastic tanks and staple them to the core! Might have saved them little, but cost me in the long run!

And these companies wonder why we buy Hondas, BMWs, Lexus', Glocks, Berettas and Sigs (Sigs made where?).

Well, if they did indeed drop the MIM barrel for the forged one, they are listening to their customers.

Makes me wonder if they have upgraded the material the f. Pin is made of as well.

I really want to be able to trust this gun with my life, if need be!

Any issues yet? I think if you fire a few boxes of quality ammo, keep the pistol clean and lubed (including the magazines) you shouldn't have any problems! I'm not a big one on buying after market upgrades for the firing mechanism. "If it ain't broken, don't fix it!" I had some feed and extraction issues with mine on the first range trip, but have narrowed that problem to a certain ammo the BG didn't like! It seems to like the PMC Bronze FMJ rounds. Good luck with yours and happy shooting! - Rick :D

Out of the 26 rounds I have fired out of mine.. (Federal 95gr FMJ).. The only issue I have had is an FTF. All ejected fine and with force... like.. they were 6+FEET away from me.

Considering getting a heavier recoil spring for it though.
