Hi people,
I need a quick change of my motor. I do not know what happened but it has burnt. I use G0750G - 12" x 36" lathe. I understand that change of the motor happens very rarely, that is why I want to find quality item. Who has any experience with the electric motors? I'd like to get your help as for the manufacturer.

Don't know where Grizzly motors are made or what their track record is but if I had to guess I'd say China. You might want to find out if a Baldor Motor will fit and be compatible. I have no idea if it will, but I know Baldor motors are one of the best. Although things might have changed for the worse, Dayton Motors were also excellent in their day.

I also heard from many people that Baldor motors are great. I contacted one guy from Craigslist. He is ready to sell me his used Weg motor. It will be cheaper than the new Baldor for example, https://www.mrosupply.com/motors/ac-motors/single-phase-motors/26719_cl3503_baldor/

But I suppose that weg motors are from Brazil and the quality is not on the highest level. I have two options: to buy a cheap pre-owned weg or invest money in new baldor. The money difference will be big too.

Check the mounting base and the shaft size and you should be able to find a replacement in another brand that is also 2hp 1750rpm.

On some of my shop equipment I have changed out the motors to 3ph and added a VFD that converts single phase to 3 ph. The VFDs allow me to control the motors rpm. Haven't done it on my lathe yet, but, have on my mill, drill press, 2x72 belt grinder and my disk grinder. No changing belt position for speed. Can go from just barely turning to way to fast with the turn of a knob.

You can use the left menu on this site to narrow results by mounting base, horsepower, ETC....

Their prices are not usually the best, BUT, you can get your part numbers to cross reference and/or shop elsewhere!!

The motor should have the frame listed on its data tag.

The frame number is a standard that defines the physical dimensions of the motor. Use that with voltage and rpm to select your motor from any manufacture.

A quick Google search of Madison WI electric motor repair turned up several hits. Might be a cheaper, quicker option than buying a new motor......

As others have stated, use this as an opportunity to upgrade to variable speed. I have bought 1 motor/vfd combo from these guy's when "the smoke came out" of my Taiwan mill, a VFD for my 3 phase South Bend lathe and several VFD's for work. They are great people to deal with.
Motor and Drive Packages, VFD with Three Phase Electric Motor
Give them the info off of your bad motor and they should be able to put a package together for you at a very reasonable price. You will love the versatility of the VFD
