I was thinking... 500 rounds!? Then I saw the video and realized that they make the M&P in full auto.:D
 
Oregon State police carry M&P along with a number of local PDs. Everyone I have talked to likes the M&P over the Glock they did carry, that is except for 1 Springfield PD. He had an issue with his when he first got it and just had not warmed up to it yet...
 
I have carried one (actually two) for the past five years. To say I dislike it is an understatement. However, I won't go into the details. When I have in the past, like clockwork, folks start to claim that based on what they've read, what I've experienced can't be true. Then there are folks who actually own/carry one and will say based on their particular pistol (which, by the way, has gone over 100,000 rounds without a cleaning or a single failure of any kind) there is no way I either:

A) Know what I'm talking about
B) Have the slightest clue about the M &P series
C) Or am outright lying about my experiences

Anyway, in my OPINION (so as to not offend/hurt feelings/upset anyone) if you are considering staking your life on one, there are much better options out there.
 
We got the hard sell. T&E'd them and experienced an exponentially higher rate of malf and part breakage. It wasn't that bad, but compared to what we normally issue, a big step down. I wish they would issue us S&W revolvers as backup though.

I found that they are good guns but like any other community there are problems with ALL guns in LE Dpts. When I asked on another forum about the 3rd gen S&Ws (one with more LEOs and service members) the concensus was about the same. Some had no problems others had nothing but dead triggers and constant problems

Nice, Sip. Issuing the U-boat is a good sign. Now all it needs is a good RDS and a Safariland holster for that combo (I think it's the 6340DO). For those not accustomed to LE weapon issuance and testing, 500 rounds is about right, especially when transitioning from the 92.

All makers have some pigs, some makers have a lot of them. Although most of the serious users I know like and recommend the M&Ps, I have heard of serious problems, most with the 9mm. In the .40, it is by far the best thing going. The G22/23 have long horrid histories; the Beretta 92/96 is a solution in search a problem (and that's being generous); I was issued both a 1076 and a 4566 and they were heinous; Sig's QC is an open joke (I had one from their custom shop or whatever they call it and it was so obviously (Messed Up) that the dealer sent it back without even calling me) ... pick one.

I have not heard any negative feedback from any of the WSP folks carrying the M&P 40, and given the road troopers' relationship with the bosses, if it was a pig they would scream it from the rooftops.

Been carrying the MP40 on duty for 4 years now, Off duty I carry the MP9c . Love the MP line.
 
Doug, they issued us the Safariland 6280 for it...I use accumold gear so the basketweave doesn't match...but I'm not spending another 110 bucks for a plain one....:)

Well, since most cops are issued their guns and a Brinks guard can choose, I would say that's an endorsement. And how some depts. choose their weapons probably has less to do with which is the best gun and more to do with which gun rep took the Chief to the best dinner.
 
Here on the front range in Colorado many depts have the M&P (9,.40 & .45acp) on the authorized list, see quite a few, the Colorado State Patrol issues it in .40.
 
Sip: I had a 6280 for my USP. Easier to reholster in a hurry than the 070, but the hood will rotate forward without being noticed, which impacts security in a conflict. I added the additional lock, but that's a pain in the backside due to my smaller hands and arthritis.

What I was thinking of with the RDS (Unity Tactical; unitytactical.com is the place to go for information and a good mount and dot combo) is the 6354DO. Not sure of why the brain freeze. Doc Roberts is in the SF area if you make contact with him, he's been shooting the heck out of some RDS setups, too.
 
1000's of rounds with never cleaning your weapon!? Don't think I would want to trust my life to that kind of gun maintenance policy.
