Lawn Mowers

I,too,am a Honda fan.

Dual blades...Bag it...Mulch it...Self-propelled...Easy start.

Release the handle and blade stops instantly but not the motor. You can feather the self-propel to your speed unlike other mowers that would drag us old guys across the lawn.

Is it the best mower out there? Can't say but their cars ain't too bad so it's was worth a try.

Sounds like a familiar problem.

There's a dude that lives about 3 miles form me that picks up mowers people threw out and fixes them. I bought 2 off him and they ran perfect till the wheels fell off.

First brand new mower I ever bought was a Toro with the big wheels in the back. Worst piece of **** I ever owned. Using the bagger option was a joke, It would only fill about a third of it then just blow the grass out the sides of the deck.

Bought a Honda about 4 years ago and it's been flawless. I did have to replace the coil thou.

I always mow before a hurricane is due to my area. After they blow thru my yard will be covered in leaves and pine needles. The Honda is live a vacuum cleaner when I put the bag on. It fills it full too.

I have a Kmart purchased WeedEater/Electrolux branded 20" with a 4.75 HP B&S rear discharge bagger that I purchased new in box September 2006.

The price, $41.00 out the door. I have no idea why it was priced like it was, but I almost hugged the lady that brought it out from the warehouse.

I have used this mower to cut some of the roughest dirtiest terrain ever considered a yard. I've changed the oil yearly and replaced paper air filter three or four times. I blow it out with air more often. I did replace the spark plug this year. It starts first or second pull.

The bagger filled up way too often, so it fell to the wayside many years ago. I use zip ties to hold the door open.

The only parts replaced have been the two rear wheels.

I believe it has its second blade on it. The blade looks like hell, but it still balances and cuts.

If the grass/weeds are wet I do clean the underside of the decks on my mowers before putting them away.

I have another Lowe's brand that's about seven years old. One of my daughters used it for about four years. So I know when I got it back this past Spring was likely the first oil change its had since. I do trim work with it now.

We recently bought another house. It has near five acres of lawn so I bought a 61" Ferris Zero Turn.

We live in a cul-de-sac with 18 homes ( and no association so we mow our own small lawns ). All Hondas and Toros; ours is a Honda. After living in the country for 40 years, when we moved to town 3 years ago, we went with what the neighbors were using. Very pleased with the Honda.:)

My experience with the cheap walmart mowers is they generally fall apart but keep running with minimal maintenance. The handswitch, wheels, exhaust door, and sometimes the folding handle usually give up the ghost long before the motor. The last one I had was the recipient of several parts from a donor mower I pulled out of someone else’s trash.

I’m paying someone for lawn care at the moment.

I too went with a Honda, picked one up a couple years ago and could not be happier. Cuts better and handles thicker grass better than anything I've owned over the years, and the extra features like adjusting the amount of grass that is bagged have been quite handy.
More $$ ? Yep. But for me it’s been well worth it.

In about 30 years, I’ve had two Honda self propelled mowers. Son started a lawn mowing business in hi school. He cut 20 lawns a week and wore out my first one. The second is about 15 years old, starts on first pull and works great.

I don't know if they are still good but I bought a Power Smart from Sears about 7 years ago and it is the best push mower I ever had and I have gone through many . It has single handle height adjustment, something that I would not do without going forward. It has a Honda knock off engine that is excellent. Honda engine parts fit like air cleaners. $200 online shipped at the time.

I would never buy another high end push mower again. I have had Honda and Kubota. No thanks. The blade brakes only cause clogging and the self propulsion is expensive to maintain when it starts to wear out and adds too much weight to the mower. If you think you need self propulsion, buy a rider. A push mower is much more reliable, cheaper and lighter.

Husqvarna 54 inch rider for a little under acre and a 1/2 yard. It has
been going strong for 10 years. When it gives it up I will probably go
with a zero turn, that is, if I am still around.

The best push mower I've had to date is still the one I have, around 17 years later. One of the last 2 cycle Lawn-boys I could find. The mower before that was a el-cheapo Murray with a Briggs engine. Bit the dust in less than 6 years.
This past winter I changed out the main shaft seal and put a new carburetor on it. Change the plugs every couple of years. She runs like a peach and usually starts on the first pull. I love it when I start the mower and the smoke pours out for the first couple of minutes. It tends to irritate the neighbors...

When shopping for lawn mowers and you get so enthralled overall the nice new sparkling mowers....just remember this....once you roll over that first pile of dog poop, the bloom is off the rose :D:D

I suppose the same thing applies to Raccoon poop too? My backyard is completely fenced in and I kept finding these huge 'deposits' in the backyard. I kept trying to figure out which no good neighbor was putting their dog in my yard at night to do their business. One night my motion sensor light lit up and I figured I had the culprit brown handed. Shined a flashlight into the backyard and caught the biggest 'Godzilla' raccoon I've ever seen mid squat. Mystery solved. Now I got to figure out how to get him trapped, a standard sized raccoon trap ain't gonna work. A suppressed 22lr will take care of the rest.
