Leaked info about Shield .45

Did it show up at the Shot Show? I haven't heard anything. I have no doubt that a Shield .45 is inevitable, but if it was anywhere near soon, it would only seem logical that it would have shown up at the show.

Just my $0.02. That and $5 will get you a regular coffee at Starbucks.

Good question!
Looking back, did S&W announce the (original) Shield at the 2012 SHOT show?
Or did they simply spring it on us?

Do 'they' expect S&W not to produce any new line of firearms...of course they will...S&W is like any other competitive manufacturer...they will always be developing something new or cutting edge...I remember when the 629 (44 mag/Dirty Harry model) was the rage...its no different now. Ten years from now the Shield will have evolved into something else...very few guns (like the 1911) have design eternity status....and they are still evolving in a positive way....

My .45's shoot softer than my .40's!!

.

Absolutely - it's moving at a much lower rate of speed. Some of my softest shooting pistols are my .45s, even the ones with 3 inch barrels. My .40 Shield is the snappiest .40 I own. My Sig P250 is one of the softest ,40s I own.

For what ever reason I think this was "Glock's" shot show with that silly G42 .380. Think about it. It is kind of like when a movie company releases a Blockbuster "Summer" movie in May and it makes crazy amounts of money. This makes sense to me. They wait a few months after the Shot Show until the buying frenzy for stuff like the G42 and the Remington R51 dies down and suddenly they have the only new product that has hit the shelves in months.

I ever heard that Glock was making a 1911 and possibly a wheel gun. However, the fan boys havent started lining up just yet either.

If Glock were to make a 1911 style auto or a wheel gun you bet your rear end we Glock fans would line up...:D

S&W makes good stuff but they are not the only ones on the planet! If they were, then why did S&W make the make the Glock clone SDVE9 and have to pay them royalties....I own S&W and Glocks...love them both...

Meh. Losing the niche of the Shield. Although the .45 will shoot more gently than the 40, the benefit over a 9mm Shield is little if anything.

The niche of the Shield is minimum size for the caliber. I don't see how a larger framed subcompact single stack .45 violates that.

IMO, a .45 has definite advantages over a 9mm in certain cases. Example - here in the snowbelt, an ACP tends to work better with winter clothing than a 9mm. I personally went with a .40 Shield to try and get some of the same effect, but I'd much prefer a .45 for winter. Since I went all M&P a few years ago, I don't much care for my Glock 36 for that purpose.

I would be interested in one, especially if to fit the .45 it had to be a wee bit thicker pistol.

The Shield45 would basically be a competitor to the XD-S45 and MAYbe the G36.
Hardly anyone mentions the XD-S, that someone doesn't compare it to the Shield and a bunch of XD-S owners jumped ship for the Shield9 (and 40), especially once the SA Recall came up.

If a Shield45 came out that had smoother recoil, Shield's trigger and lighter weight than the XD-S45, I think a even more XD-S owners would jumps ship.

Try the M&P 45C. I would not trade mine for anything.

I was trying to be nice. But, ok, I'll lay it out. Sounds like someone here is involved with them, else why the warning? Sounds like a stoolie is here, no offense.

Stoolie? lol. For some reason I hear that with Cagney's voice.

We have a great relationship with the factory. But we didn't "rat out" the last guys the factory found them on their own.

It was just before the NRA show and S&W's marketing department had a big "tease" marketing plan in motion teasing the public about the new gun and what it would be. If I remember correctly - it was a guy (maybe two) who worked at the factory store/range that let the cat out of the bag and spoiled the surprise. The information was posted here. S&W figured out where the leak was and they fired those responsible.

So I am not the (sounding like Cagney) "the dirty yellow bellied rat", "I ain't no Stoolie", S&W was smart enough to figure it out on their own.

Posting proprietary information on the web is stupid squared. No "stoolie" required. I'm sure that people at S&W at least look at this site now and then.

I bet the OP heard it from a guy who works at his lgs who heard it from his distributor and the info is legit because someone saw a stocking number and description on a pricing sheet. Yep, must be true.

Sarcasm aside, with the xds being such a hit and the constant need to be innovative with existing successful products, I'd be surprised if Smith wasn't working on a 45 Shield.

Not to mention, manufacturers in many industries leak product coming even if it is not to slow down purchase from competitors. I've seen it in the performance auto industry for years now..

Xds .40 is coming out this year supposedly too so it would make sense for Shield to come out as a .45 to keep competition to the xds line
