Shot a 96% w/my M&P 2.0 Compact yesterday but the best part was going to breakfast at the local American Legion w/old friends afterward. I used a Sharpie to blackout the white dot rear sight & wore an old pair of reading glasses to help the front sight pop quickly. Good to go for another year.

"Old Cop" also. My eyes are 73 years old. Been retired for 18 years now, after 32 years on the job. Qualifying has become more difficult each year. My son is a Deputy and a range master for his Department. He convinced me to try his Springfield Armory Hellcat with a "Wasp" red dot sight. What a huge difference! No more need for reading glasses to try and focus on the front sight. The red dot co-witnesses on the top of the front sight.
Did my annual LEOSA qualification two weeks ago and aced it.

A RDS is almost like cheating for sure. It has helped me be 100% the last several years, my house guns, and carry guns now have them. More and more I’m seeing the younger cops with optic mounted on pistols.

Look at target with BOTH eyes open, place dot on target and press. So much easier then open sights. Been retired for 17 years now with bifocals and such. Don’t see how they are doing the job now.

I qualified on Friday.

Let's see, that was about the 27th qualification round on that range for me.

Never has it been that hot. I don't know what the heat index was but my headphones had water in them by the time I finished. Sweatin' like a Russian racehorse.

It's funny, but about 1995 we went to Glocks and I hated them. I complained for years. My scores were always expert with the Glock, and I learned to shoot pretty well with them, progressively getting even better over the years, but I'm a SIG guy.

So, now that I'm retired I can LEOSA cert with my new Custom Shop SIG P320. So, that's what I did. Big smile!

I should be happy, but I didn't shoot as well with my SIG as I always did with the Glock. LOL

My Training Officer (actually a protégé of mine, and a fine young man) told me "You Glock guys never do as well with a SIG, ya know. Change is hard!"

So I guess, over the years, I morphed into a Glock guy after all!

Quigley has no pistol preference!

I have had the same issues... old eyes, reading glasses and trying to see the front sight. A couple years back I bought a pair of the SSP shooting glasses. They are bifocals with the magnification up top. An absolute game changer! Most of the retirees qualifying on our range are now wearing a set.

I had a similar experience when I worked overseas. I carried a Berretta 92 for 5 years, 2 in Kosovo and 3 in Afghanistan. The 92 never felt good in my hands; just too big.

But, I shot 100% with it, every time. Go figure!

We helped the Philippine Natl Police transition from Berreta 92 to Glock and mostly heard sighs of relief. Filipinos tend to be about 15-20% smaller than Americans.

I like to mix it up.
I took a big 5 inch 625 (1988) last year.
This year I did it with a 60's vintage Swiss Army P210.
What a tack driver! Ragged hole maker.
But, pretty lo pro sights and smallish for older peepers.
Fun though.

We are lucky in my state as the LEOSA course does not require shots at farther than 7 yards. I don’t understand the requirement in some states that the retired folks have to qualify on the (sometimes) difficult courses for in-service officers.

My current LEOSA cert. expires 11/8...so I qualified this morning and sent off the paperwork to Raleigh for my new card.

Another year in the books.

I had cataract surgery several years ago. Simply amazing, only need reading glasses for very small print.
Modern science. Now if they could only restore my hair.
