Well, I indulged myself again and just got back from the Beach Boys concert today over in Lancaster. The very first record I ever bought was "I Get Around" with a picture jacket and I still have it. I saw the Beach Boys in Philadelphia something like 40 years ago and they were still rocking it today. The concert looked like it was sold out, and there is another show tonight. I've been listening to them for decades and I have to say that they've maintained the instrumentation and the sound even with the personnel changes that have occurred over the decades. They really got the place rocking when they pealed off a bunch of their old "hot rod" songs in rapid succession. And the whole place was jumping when they finished with "Fun, Fun, Fun." It carried me back to my old disk jockey days playing oldies on the air. A great show, and now for me seeking "experiences" will be going to more of the concerts by the old time rock and roll performers

The first time I saw the Beach Boys was 50 years ago at the local lakeshore dancehall. Got autographs from 2 of them. Have seen them several times since then. Always a good time.
My daughter and granddaughters are also fans.

edit: My mental math was off, it was 60 years ago, Gawd, I'm old.

I always liked them. The only time I saw them live was when they performed at the opening of the Corvette Museum. They sang, "And she'll have fun, fun, fun 'till her daddy takes the Corvette away...".

I'm another who's first album was "The Best of the Beach Boys". Growing up in Central Virginia was about as far from "surf country" as I could get I suppose, but I could still imagine it.

(Yes, I know they surfed along the Atlantic, but that was mentally still a million miles away to this country boy.)

First saw them in Va. Beach in 69? In 2010 we took 2 of the grandkids to see them at Silver Springs Fla. Outdoor venue and the place was packed. I told the grandkids just remember this as in 50-60 years when you are sitting around talking you can say, “ we saw the Beach boys live”.

I told you a few months ago, the 1964 Tribute Band will be at Gettysburg College August 9th. They are fabulous and play Beatles to the note, and rock the house.:)

The Beach Boys was the very first concert I ever went to back in 1975/76 at Pine Knob in Auburn Hill, Michigan. Had their 'Endless Summer' 8 Track jamming in my '68 Cougar XR7 with Mindblower speakers. Ah the good ol' days.

Brings back a lot of memories of being raised in Huntington Beach...surfing and listening to KRLA or KFWB on the transistor radio with a four foot antenna. My favorite was "Help me Rhonda.":D

How about ...Newport, Huntington piers; 15th Street, Blackie's, The Golden Bear, The Prison of Socrates, the Wedge, LLoyd Thaxton, the Sunday beach preacher, etc..I agree, GREAT memories!!

I've not been surfing in 3 years. I need to fix that next time we get a good hurricane swell.

The beach Boys never got the recognition they deserved, in my opinion. Right up there with the Beatles in terms of influence and pushing the bounds of recorded music. Plus the harmonies. They will be played centuries from now.

I disagree.

The Beach Boys are one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands of all time, selling over 100 million records worldwide. They helped legitimize popular music as a recognized art form and influenced the development of music genres and movements such as psychedelia, power pop, progressive rock, punk, alternative, and lo-fi. Between the 1960s and 2020s, the group had 37 songs reach the US Top 40 (the most by an American band), with four topping the Billboard Hot 100. In 2004, they were ranked number 12 on Rolling Stone's list of the greatest artists of all time. Many critics' polls have ranked Today!, Pet Sounds, Smiley Smile (1967), Sunflower (1970), and Surf's Up (1971) among the finest albums in history. The founding members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. Other members during the band's history have been David Marks, Bruce Johnston, Blondie Chaplin, and Ricky Fataar.

Glen Campbell was with them for a while. He was on the tonight show and Carson ask him about it. He broke out a guitar and played a few riffs from Help Me Rhonda.

Mike Love is the only original member still touring and he's well into his 80s.

Mrs. Sheepdawg and I saw them back in 2015 and they still rock.
