Lets Not Forget Those High Functioning Ugly Ducklings

Who needs finish anyway?

Although these pics don't really show it, this 29-2 from March 1969 has small splotches of missing blue over pretty much the entire gun. I think that this gun was put away, wet, and in a holster for just long enough for the rust to eat through the blue but not to cause any pitting. Someone also rounded off the edges of the rear sight blade for no-snag unholstering, another clue that it lived in a holster. I bought it because it was wearing a near perfect set of Non Relieved Diamond Targets. As it sits right now, I think I have just over $350 in it. It's a fine shooter, just ask Peter here.....

I recently found this re blued & re barreled to 4" M&P Target. Whoever modified this gun I'm sure had a working purpose for the shorting of the barrel.
This revolver gets prettier to me every time I look at it!

Man, dial it in for your personal load and roll 1000 of them.

This whole thread is full of win. You get such a variety of nice old Smiths coming out on a post like this.

S-Prefix Transitional from 1947: Sometime during its life this was refinished by someone who really liked to lean into a buffing wheel. But, it's tight, the double-action pull is silky smooth, and the single-action release is like a breaking icicle.

To me this is the quintessential police sidearm. (Perhaps that's why it was called M&P ;).) I can remember viewing them at eye level in shiny black holsters in the late 40s). Back then I wished I had the courage to reach out and touch it while the policeman wasn't looking.

I've fired thousands of rounds though this revolver and occasionally use it in IDPA matches. I can shoot six-shot groups that I can cover with the palm of my hand at 15 yards. (I'm 71 and have had cataract surgery, so I regard this as remarkable.) And I trust it to hit where I point it.

Carried every day out here in the country and shot most days. 1954 vintage 357 Magnum. Not pretty but still shoots true and not afraid to get wet or dirty.

Nice to have noticed this thread. Was almost ready to start a "good condition" thread myself. These are nice to see. Thanks for sharing. IMHO, none are particularly "ugly ducklings". I like a safe queen as much as the next person.

My hunt is on for a "good" gun(s) with a bright bore, crisp action w/ well worn finish from sustained use or carry, consistent wear covering high spots or working surfaces which displays some original blueing in protected areas, light surface corrosion turning brown and covered with uniform light scattered surface scratches which do not interfere with function.

I will add an early Model 1902 in 32 Winchester. I shot it for awhile, but was embarrassed by condition, so I rust blued it and now am proud to take it to the range. I guess that $150 turned out to be a good deal after all, since I have shot it often. Picked up a pair of 1902 round butt walnut Diamond stocks and that is what looks good for now.

You can't even see a turn line in its original condition.:D

This old M & P might fit in this category..............

..................Some nicks, Knocks, Blemishes, and teeth marks but lots of character just the same. What can you expect for one that spent their formative years down South of the border.

Thanks Bruce for letting me babysit her awhile.
