Akoda they are a very smar breed. They can be trained for most canine sports and jobs.We use two of ours for therapy visiting hospital nursing homes schools.Feel good jobs.Forty years ago my first Bouvier caught burglars at my house in Detroit. He was maybe 9 months old and he made them cry.The next day I walked him around neighborhood and he wanted to play with any kid he saw.

Bogey...

Came across this old pic of the best dog I've ever knew...'Bogey". He was 65# of piss and vinegar and hands down the smartest animal I have ever encountered. It was my privilege to share his life for 11 years before he wandered over the Rainbow bridge.

Don't be put off by the pic, a sweeter dog never lived but many Dalmations snarl like this when they are very happy or feeling really guilty {as in he just got caught doing something we both knew he shouldn't...} LMAO!

I had this pic blown up to 8 X 10" and the photo shop guy freaked. I explained his snarl but he said:

"I don't care what you say mister, I still wouldn't pet him!"

Our neighbors had a Chow named Bogey, he spent more time at our house playing with kids than he did at home.

Since I don't have the best pictures I'll use several. This thread made me smile and smile and smile:

Crockett and Magnum, now around 13 and 11 respectively. Both still feisty as ever, sweet as can be, and do NOT be a raccoon or possum in their presence.

Magnum as a puppy; more or less 6 months old - he sure changed a lot:

Crockett as a 6 month old - not too much change:

Mature pictures of the two of them as dogs, not puppies - still, these were taken probably 4 or 5 years ago:

I take lots of pictures of them because they are sooooo cool!

One of these days I'll upload later ones plus pictures of dogs that have gone before; I have not been without a dog since 1981.

Watchdog , my girls lick the ears . You watch which one does it to who , and you know the pecking order .

Now this I will have to look for. My two dogs practically grew up together, give or take 18 months and, and sometimes they do look like they are kissing. I have never noticed lip or ear licking but now I am going to pay close attention!

Great looking dogs! Two dogs can be so much fun.

Why wait for "one of these days"? It only takes a few minutes to make some photographs. What are you waiting on? There isn't a day goes by that I don't photograph my dogs with one camera or another.

Take my advice. Don't be that person who ends up saying, "Oh, if only I'd made more photographs of my dogs."

We have pics of all our dogs , and we've had them as long as we've been married . When we lose one , my wife gets a dog Xmas tree ornament at Hallmark . That way when we put up the tree we remember all those girls that shared their lives with us .

Here's an update on my previous posts in this thread. My daughter picked up another rescue from the Parish animal shelter to help keep Reno company. Reno is another animal rescue she adopted about 5 1/2 years ago and we guess he is mostly coon hound with quite a bit of Heinz 57 in him. :D One of the smartest danged dogs I've ever run across and I have seen some real smart ones. Anyways, Lily was taken from a hoarder environment along with around 8-10 other dogs and she is roughly 1 1/2 to 2 years old according to what the vet told the shelter. Here is a pic of both of them on the sofa this evening. Reno is the one closest to the camera and Lily is the one wearing the shirt. She's wearing the shirt because she was spayed Monday and my daughter put the shirt on her to keep her from licking and bothering the stitches, which actually seems to be working.

I'm thinking that she has quite a bit of Rott in her. Her general body shape looks to have a general Rott build as well as her head shape reminds me of Rott. For sure she ain't purebred, but we really don't care about that kind of stuff any more anyways. She has been here at the house for a week now and seems to be adjusting pretty darn well now. When she came home last week, she was very skittish and standoffish to me, so I think she had some bad experience from a man in the past. She is now starting to trust me pretty well now and will come to me to get petting and cookies.

Oh, and this evening I had another tell out of Lily having Rott blood in her. My daughter's husband got off the open road this evening (long haul trucker) to spend a few days home over Thanksgiving and this was the first time Lily had met him. She was kind of skittish with him too at first but settled down on the other side of the couch by my daughter while we caught up and he ate supper. He left to go take a shower to get ready for bed and was gone from about 20 minutes. When he came out of the hallway into the living room he startled Lily and she came out with one of those Rottweiler growls that start from lower than hell that give you pause, until she saw that we weren't worried about Demetry appearing.:D That is the first time we have heard her vocalize since she came home from the shelter. She is nice and has a very calm temperament and gets along very well with our cats too. And in the week she has been here, she has picked up on the meaning of commands just by associating them with us giving Reno commands and his reactions to them. It surprised the heck out of us this evening when Demetry told her to go lay down and she went to the dog bed and laid down; we haven't worked with her on commands yet even. But she has watched Reno responding to commands for a week now and she seems to be catching on to them. I think she is showing quite a bit of intelligence and she is blending in to her new "pack" real well.

"Thanksgiving" is right!

My cousin just sent me this picture of her little dog after his big meal! My cousin has gone through a great deal of extreme difficulty over the past several years. She got this dog about two years ago, and he has been the best medicine ever for her!

Warren , I think a dog is as good as a Doc or a shrink sometimes . My one Aussie is a therapy dog and visits hospitals and retirement homes . To watch her go up and sit beside someone and look them in the eyes when they talk to her , you know she understands their hurt . Dogs are the best therapy there is .

Ted and Ruby

The current beasties. Ted, the shorter of the two, is actually a bit heavier at 85 pounds. He is mostly rott, probably 3/4, the other 1/4 suspected for good cause to be Australian Shepherd. He's a smart little brat. Ruby is all Rott. Both are rescues, with ... some of the attendant baggage, but all in all, good dogs most of the time.
