Let's See Some Dogs !

Man -O Man , that didn't take long . I knew there were dog lovers out there . You know it's bad when your wife makes special ice cream for the dogs and I get to fend for myself .

LOL

I'm still wary of allowing Abby to be boarded in a home with other dogs, so I take her to a local kennel. She's a bit neurotic, and didn't want to eat at first.
When I called to check on her and talked to the owner, he said "oh Abby..., I went into the house, that smells great, are we having lamb tonight?" 'No, this is for Abby, you can heat up some leftovers.' Even they spoil her.

Another pic, from the top of our world.

The downside of pets is when they pass. Squirt was 10 and kidney failure got him. He was a true S&W forum dog. I came home one Sunday in 2007 after a gun show and my wife surprised me with him. my 16 year old tiny toy poodle had recently passed and Squirt was good medicene.

It tore Barney up when Squirt passed, he grieved for 2 solid months but they were inseperable for 10 years.

I hear you ! We got our first Aussie , a blue merle , 30 years ago . She had been hit by a car and was hiding in some bushes . Ever since , we have always had one . Well , now 2 , sometimes 3 . I'd say they are the best , but looking at these pics , I'd have to eat crow .

We lost this fine fella last fall. He was loyal to a fault, much smarter than me, and was the best friend a guy could ever have.

I'd love to get another, but the wife doesn't seem to be ready just yet.

We lost my wife's little best friend in March of last year, I cried for days, my wife cried for weeks. She finally agreed to another pup after about 9 months. Her mourning really continued after we got Captain (8 weeks old), as she would see things that reminded her of little girl lost. She still hasn't been out to the burial site out back.

But I see her improving everyday as she has fallen in love with the new little guy. It takes time. Your wife will let you know when she's ready. I was ready the following month, but most women are wired different, thank the Good Lord.

My wife started looking at classifieds one day, and soon picked out this little guy. Give her time and don't push her. (I made that mistake) It will happen when your wife & God are ready. Your special dog may not be born yet. ;)

It only took me about 34 years to get over the loss of my first great dog, Eli. Unfortunately, no digital images exist, just memories. Now I have taken the plunge for my second great dog, Cinco. We were both born on 5/5. His job is to get me outside every day for a heart saving walk and my job is to give him the best possible life for a dog. Here he is at 8 months.

My son's dog, Sebastian, doing his best Yoda impression:

Don't let the cuteness fool ya. He's a sneaky one. My son was eating one day and someone came to his front door and the dog ran out past my sons legs and got outside. My son went after him as Sebastian ran next door. The dog circled back in the house and jumped up on the table and was eating my sons food when he came back in.

We have to spell the "F" word around him or he goes nuts. By F word I mean "Food".

This is the last dog I had, his name is Bonzai.

He was a rescue dog that my daughter took in. She worked at an animal hospital and she was the master at finding animals new homes.

I asked her one time how come she could never find Bonzai a home and she told me, "I did. I wanted him to live here with you and mom. I knew you would take care of him."

She said he had lived a horrible life and she knew my ex and I would take good care of him which we did. He had lived with one of his offspring in a basement bathroom for three years.

When she took him in they pulled several of his teeth and his hair was all matted and he stunk horribly. But she fixed him.

We gave him the very best medical care, he ate the best food, did what ever he wanted and was greatly loved.

He's been gone for 6-7 years now. One day I'll get another dog. Right now just isn't the right time because of where I am in my life.

This is Bodhi. She is a light colored Katahoola Cur that we found on the road one cold, cold New Years Day. She was about 4 weeks old and mostly dead. She sure recovered though. That last photo is bear poop IN my barn from a bear she chased out at dawn when we went to feed the animals. About scared the you know what out of me too! She has run off bears four times now, seems fearless about that. (Sorry for the lousy cell phone photo quality.)

Regardless of breed or size, they all have one thing in common....when they found their home, they've got it made for a lifetime!

This big tough squirrel dog has to sleep with his head outta the covers..... with the fan blowing his face:)

Been over a year since the late, great BabyGirl passed in my arms.
I've got Mrs. Native thinking about but not yet ready for another. I
think a dog's heart just does not have the capacity to contain the amount
of love they have for us and that's why they are gone all too soon.
Licking her chops waiting for me to say "Cheers" for her puddle of beer and waiting
for the opportunity to rid the yard of squirrels, iguanas and roaming cats.
