Bygone Days
My old Rottweiler, Chief, welcomes 11-week-old Annie on the first day in her Forever Home in June of 2010. She exhibited the typical wolf-like behavior of laying down and licking Chief's mouth and lips in a sign of submission to the dominant dog.
Chief was old and thick-bodied by then, having endured multiple surgeries over the past several months. His fur still had bare patches where he had been shaved for surgery and the placement of IVs. He was a brave and valiant dog, having taken down a would-be burglar at our former home years before. In his prime, he was something to see.
In the four months he had remaining in his life, he taught little Annie the rules of the house and yard. She followed him everywhere, often ignoring me as she did.
Nine years later, it would not surprise me one bit if she still felt and smelled his presence in this house.
There isn't a day goes by that I don't think of him.

Watchdog , my girls lick the ears . You watch which one does it to who , and you know the pecking order .

Booger's doing fine!
The little 2-month-old waif we adopted last year after the loss of our superdog Joe just had her first birthday last month. We had to take a trip to California to attend the funeral of a good friend, and we put Corey (nicknamed "Booger" by me) into a commercial kennel for a few days. She did really well, socialized with the other dogs, but was really glad to see us when we picked her up!
Here are some "before and after" shots of her - first when she was just a puppy, and second just today. She's a real joy to have around - boundless energy, and very loving and loyal.

What a face in the second shot!! No way can anyone not love a dog with a face like that.

This is my dog. I call him Sammy. He was named after a 19th century Irish revolutionary, Samuel Sean McDermott.
He is a Peurto Rican hurricane dog and does not speak English.

What a cool photo of your handsome boy Sammy. He looks very relaxed. I can easily imagine him having a calming effect on people he meets. Did you rescue him?

Summer is here!
I don't care if it's "officially" here or not...we've already had incredibly high temperatures.
We try to get out for a walk early in the morning now, while the temperatures are still in the 70s. Rottweilers do not like hot weather, and neither do I. When it's over 80, Beau starts huffing and puffing like a steam engine.
Beau and Annie are just taking a little break here on our walk the other morning. No more all day walks for us in summertime...already counting down until Fall and Winter.

I hear you Watchdog ! My one girl was pushed off a grooming table when she was 8 months . Her hip was dislocated and we thought they would have to operate . Thank God we found an ortho specialist that knew something . After 2 months of being crated and little movement , she went to rehab . No operation ! Anyways , I walk her everyday 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 miles . I try to get out by 0730 , but even then it's 80 with 70-80% humidity . It's rough , but I do it for her . The more exercise she gets , the better .I too am longing for those cool mornings , but mine won't come for another 4-5 months .

Here is Josie, our rescue dog. She is about 2 years old and had a rough life before we got her. She's a sweet dog but has problems we are working out. She is super shy and a challange to train. She is pottie trained but otherwise grabs her treats and runs away with them. I think she was in an environment where she was low dog and may have had a bit of abuse. All that aside she is a pleasure to have around.
Rolls Royce now at 4 months. He has become quite a character.
