Let's See Those Dirty Guns!

Model 64 DAO shooting Black Hills reloaded rounds. Low recoil but hideously dirty.

Yup, 66L is winning so far. I think I would have to shoot some BP loads to have a gun that dirty!!!

jaymoore; Usual dirty revolver champ is the 4" 617 said:
I GOTTA ROLL WITH jaymoore ON THIS ONE. I HAVE SHOT MANY HANDGUNS IN OVER 50 YEARS OF SHOOTING, BUT NOTHING GETS AS FILTHY AS MY 4" MODEL 617, WITH THE 10 SHOT CYLINDER. I HAVE AN 8 3/8" WITH A 6 SHOT CYLINDER THAT STAYS MUCH CLEANER. THE COPPER PLATED AMMO, LIKE CCI MINI MAG, SEEMS TO SHOOT THE CLEANEST.
SORRY, I DON'T HAVE ANY PICS……….

Great thread. Refreshing diversion from the normal light box and wax displays. Not that I don't like those, it is just nice to see some of the work horses get their due.

Usually the lighter the load the dirtier they get. The hotter loads burn all the powder up. Bullseye seems to be one of the more dirty powders, but you can sure make some good loads with it.

I agree . Even his shooting hand is filthy!

That's just over 400 rounds worth that day if I remember correctly, and I had wiped the gun down a couple of times! I was given several cases of that particular ammo, the guy who passed it on couldn't stand it. I'm not averse to cleaning guns but that stuff is next level dirty.

I took the pictures because it was so unusual, glad y'all enjoy it.

LOVE 'EM!

I never thought about taking pix of them dirty. Worst handgun: my S&W 329PD after 100 down-loaded lead-bullet hand-loads. Thing looked like a two-tone black and white.

Dirtiest of all was a Thompson M1A1 after a match where I had to borrow some ammo from a guy who believes in moly coating. The gun was blue/black, my hands were blue/black and my face was blue/black. Don't want to even THINK about my lungs. Huge clouds of smoke as I was shooting.

Taking pix of them is a great idea. Now on my to-do list.

Thanks, everyone!

dwever, thanks for digging up this year old thread!! I was inspired last week to have a 44 spl day at the range. I had 850 rds loaded up and figured I'd get rid of some. I took the 3" kids out for a field trip. My 624 and 24-3.
