i have two 686's a 4" and a 6" - also have a 6" 629 - and lastly a 1980 4" Python that i'm looking to get wood grips for - right now i'm looking at some Hogue wood grips and some from a company called Badger Custom - i thought it would be cool to see what some of you guys are using as far as wood grips - i know i will be going with finger grooves but i'd like to see what some of you have done - LET'S SEE THOSE GRIPS!

her's where i'm at with what i'm looking at - the first two are for the 686's - third one is for the Colt - have nothing for the 629 yet as i have to figure out what frame it has square or round

For the older guns I just keep the stock target grips

This is what I keep on my Model 629's. One from Hogue and the other two are Ahrends. They fit my hands better than the factory "rubber" grips on the Camfour guns and the finger groove combat grips on the Lew Horton.

Badger makes a nice grip, shown on a 19-7.

My all time favorite grips are these Craig Spegel extended boot grips, shown on a Model 547.

Smith's "Combat" grips..... for me ....... felt good in the hand until I put them on a gun..... they all seemed to push my little finger to far from my ring finger making the grip feel wrong, less secure. For the cost today; see if you can try a set before buying....................

For me Spegal Boot and Extended Boot grips are prefect and I've been using them since the mid-80s...... problem today is the 2 year backlog.

I really like Ahrends stocks they just seam to fit my hand (xlg.glove size) the best and they look real good, getting hard to find now.

Left to Right:

Herrett's Cocobolo on Model 29

Herrett's Jordan Troopers on Model 19

Herrett's Double Diamonds on Colt's Gold Cup

Spegel's Extended Boots on Colt's Agent

I don't have a 629 but my 29-2 wears its factory Coke Bottle Grips.

I liked them soo much I asked a good friend to find me a really nice set for my 6.5" M-27.

Which he did. They are perfect. They are like brand new. ;)

I have smooth Combats on my 640-1 and think they are perfect for the gun.

I have smooth Combats for my 66-1,

I prefer these well worn Targets off a 68-2 that I sold because my brother carried this one the first 10 years that he was in law enforcement. I do have the Hogue Monogrips that were on it and I don't have the factory Targets for it. :(

I also like these smooth Presentation grips on my 5" M-27-2.

Am I weird because I like the stock S&W target and presentation grips? I'll admit if I am going to shoot a lot I'll put on a set of Pachymars but for visual appeal I'll take factory targets or presentation grips every time
