I would like to see your favorite S&W revolver. I have many but a newly aquired Model 57 from a forum member is certainly going to be my favorite. Picking this one is really tough because I love my 27-2's.

Art, that 57 is choice!

If I had to pcik one out of all mine, it would not be the oldest, or the one in best condition, or the shiniest one.

It would be this humble 65-8. It has everything the purists hate. But it has been dead stone reliable after nearly 5000 rounds in two years (most of that in its first year), it is lightning fast on the draw, has an awesome trigger, is very accurate, points like the Finger of God and hits like the Hammer of Thor.

This is the gun I have carried the most and the one I feel most confident in should I ever be in the fight for my life.

Mine doesn't fit the time frame either but it's a New Model #3 in 44Russian. 5" barrel, target sights, non rebounding hammer, original factory nickel finish. Shipped late,,1915,,,3 years(?) after the Model was officially discontinued by the factory.

Since this is the 1961-1980 forum, here's my favorite from that period--a Model 60 from the very first batch, with factory original high-polish finish and solid stainless hammer and trigger:

This is probably my favorite from the 1961 to 1980 time period. A 27-2 wearing Kurac's magnas.

It's just shy of this criteria, shipped in 9/23/53, and wearing a pair of Patrick's stags here. (Came with the Walnut targets per letter).

Man , I got to buy a 3.5 inch barrel 27-2. My Second favorite S&W to my model 57 is a 27-2 in 6 inch barrel.

Here's mine. It is a M27 that was converted to .44 Special back in 1976. I bought the gun and a 6 1/2" 1950 barrel and took it to Walker Arms in Selma, Alabama. They rechambered the cylinder and installed the barrel, but failed to cut it to 5", as I had requested. Being a poor and impatient college student/sheriff's deputy, I took it back to Auburn University with me and proceeded to shoot the heck out of it.

In 2005, I took it to David Clements and had him cut the barrel to 5", install a new front sight and reblue it.

Second runner up is this 1926 3rd Model Hand Ejector .44 Special that I found at the gun show in Dulles, Virginia. It was shipped to Wolf and Klar in Jan 1927 in the first shipment of 3rd Models. Right now it has the lowest known serial number of the surviving 3rd Models.

My favorite shooter, a Model 10-7 marked "RHKP" (Royal Hong Kong Police), eerily accurate, I shoot this gun better than anything I own. Maybe because I shoot it more than the others. If I can get within 25 yards of any small target, it is doomed:

My favorite collectable, a Model 45 .22 M&P revolver, shipped August 1, 1962 to Fall River, Massachusetts Police Department. Marked "F.R.P.D. 2" on rear grip frame. This was my "Holy Grail" gun, if I die before getting another gun, I'll die happy:

Boy, it is so hard to choose and I don't have any good individual pictures of my 2-1/2" 19-2 so right now this is my favorite.

I only have one from the era, but by far my favorite of the pistols I own.

Does it skew your opinions based on the $$$ deal you made for your "favorite"?

I think it has mine, I know exactly what I paid for each of mine and in the back of my head I compare the way it feels, the way it shoots, how much I paid and compare it to other good shooters I've had. This one was a very good deal.... I've paid way more for way less.

Whenever this question is asked I can't pick one. I like them all for different reasons. But if I HAD to choose one, I think it might be this Florida Highway Patrol marked 27-2 from 1977. The 5" barrel length is my favorite and I love the shiny guns. I got this about 1989 from a dealer selling off surplus cop guns. It was in unfired condition (must not have ever been issued) and I paid $215 for it.
