My first J Frame at 61 yrs old. Had it a few weeks. (1981) Got it to the range once. 7yds one hand on steel gongs not too bad. It is a learning & practice thing. Regardless, it is fun to shoot! Bob

Harrish - do you think the Altamont Polymer and Rosewood cushion your hand as well as the stock rubber grips?

I'm loving my new 638 and would like to dress it up a little, but I read one review of the all wood grips that your hand hurts while shooting. I have an Apex trigger kit in mine, so it's a joy to shoot as is. But like I said, I'd like to gussy her up a bit.

The Uncle Mike boot grips (R.I.P.) aren't much to look at, but I like'em. They feel good in my hand and they're no bigger than they need to be. It's strange they went out of grip business years ago. I thought they had a good, popular product, in a solid distribution chain.

I recently installed these Hogue Tamers; they're built specifically for the centennial frame--covering the entire backstrap. They also extend 0.41" below the frame to make room for a pinky. Makes for a very ergonomic grip that is easy to shoot with (this target was 10 rounds of Gold Dot 135 +P at 7 yards, offhand.)

Spegel who designed the grips and Uncle Mikes got into some type of "territory" war and production stopped.

I'd love to have a set of rubber boot grips for a K frame round butt.
