Let's talk, why M&P 9mm??

Good to hear guys! Thanks sooooo much. I'm more sold then I ever was! I was a HUGE Sig Sauer fan for the longest time. But all I'm hearing is how horrible their CS is. I will one day own a 226, but it won't be the next one I buy.

I've heard nothing but good things about S&W! And that goes a long way. Especially when you need parts or service.

M&P 9mm FS was my first purchase. great gun by far better than block. i will never own a block after shooting an M&P :)

I like the M&P line because I can get them with a thumb safety and upgrading the trigger is inexpensive. I like the 9mm because I can shoot that caliber well, follow up shots are quick, and factory ammo is easy to find and will not completely break the bank.

As to why S&W over others:

Been shooting pistol for a lot of years. Other than the 1911 type no LE agencies issue a 1911 for dept. issue. The Smiths simply feel better in the hand than Glock,Sig,or H&K. The M&P is superb in accuracy and feel, very reliable. Even the Sigma series fits my hand like a glove and just as accurate as the competition. Nothing wrong w/ the aboved mention pistols. They are fine, but I chose the S&W and have never regretted it!

My M&P 9mm FS is my first gun and like many of the other forum responders it fits my hand best and I shot it best when compared to the Glock 19/17 and others.

I'm also left handed and while the Gen 4 Glock and most others now have reversable mag releases, very few have a slide lock release on the right side for us to use.

Also S&W did some research when designing the M&P series and made some improvement over other striker fired designs. There are some interesting internal engineering enhancements to the M&P series. One example is that the striker itself has a grooved teflon sleeve around it to prevent the air pumping lock that can happen to a Glock.

Ergonomics - even better than the Walther P99 and far superior to my beloved all-steel guns.

Customer service - S&W appears to have the best CS in the industry.

Function - this is a purely personal observation, but for me the recoil cycle of the M&P9 naturally brings the sights back on target, which allows me to accurately empty a magazine on target quicker than with any other gun.

I have spent roughly two hours with my brand new M&P9 and sadly say that my unflagging allegiance to my 3rd en 3913 has indeed flagged. What a firearm this M&P is. If I had the Cadillac of Smith autos before, I have the Rolls Royce now. I have never shot an auto that felt like it was custom fit to my hand as much as the M&P is. Just plain wow. I have a new best friend now. Because of all the positive posts here I ordered a CrossBreed Super Tuck before I picked up the gun. Glad I did, because this gun isn't going anywhere. Smith hit it out of the park on this one. And this is a wheel gun fan talking here! I guess a Smith is Smith, round or flat.

"I guess what I wanted to ask, just for discussion sake, is why S&W over let's say, Glock, Springfield, Sig Sauer, Walther?"

I'll run it down for you:

1. M&P has better egros (for me) than the Glock.
2. M&P cost less than all of the others.
3. M&P fits my hand better than all the others except for Walther, but that mag release on my Gen 1 P99 turned me off.
4. M&P was highly recommended by everyone I knew that owned one.
5. Each of the above has had "teething" issues, but M&P had the least and fixed them the fastest.
6. Just as many aftermarket goodies as Glock.
7. Purpose of Use. Its a duty gun and my CCW. Since it bears very similar size characterisics to my 1911 Commander but without the weight.
8. To your question about why .9mm? Why not? Its been doing the job for over 100 years and the M&P gives me 17+1 to do it. Oh, and I have the .45 too.
9. Warranty (haven't needed it) and CUSTOMER SERVICE.
10. MADE IN THE USA!

Haha, YES! I was sold from all the previous posts, but you just resold me =]

I'm now just impatiently waiting for the ol' tax return to get back and then it's purchase time =]

Thanks for your input.

My wife, Luscious, lost most of the ring finger on her right (shooting) hand in a childhood push-mower accident. When she started looking at a CC gun, it became obvious she was going to need a magazine with a pinkie extension or else she would only have one finger on the grip.

She wanted to be a Glock Girl sooo bad but when she tried the G26 "Baby Glock" the magazine jumped with each shot, consistently pinching the webbing in her hand.
The salesman put an M&P 9C in her hand and she never looked back.

It was ergonomics for me also. The M&P fit my hand better, and the larger beavertail prevents the dreaded Glock "slide bite".
I now own 3 M&Ps after selling off the last of the Glocks, and they all shoot great groups. The M&P9 FS is my EDC now.

My reasons for going with the M&P over the myriad of contenders in the field.

1) Superior ergonomics
2) Quality of design and materials
3) Competitive pricing
4) Great customer service reputation.
5) Manufactured and serviced here in the USA

Some of the others come very close but IMO none hit the mark on every one of the above factors like the S&W M&P.

I'll add "lowest felt recoil of any compact 9 I've erver owned" and " Apex drop in sear's make a good gun into a great gun".

FWIW, I own a Glock 26 as well. Of all the glocks, this seems to be the only one that fits my (medium) hand well. It's nice enough but I love the 9C.

Howdy all, I've never owned my own gun, as I've only used my uncles shotguns, and bow, that was never mine. Well I moved from jersey to Florida, and am now in the middle of going to do my armed security license, and my father in laws friend had bought the s&w m&p9c online paid for it brought it home, and realized he didnt like the feel of it, so he offered me the deal of a lifetime, I bought it of him, I bought the 9mm compact, 24 fmj rounds, 24 hollow points, 750 rounds of ****ty Walmart ammo, and a out of the pants holster. All that for only 600 bucks, oh yeah and an army ammo can with the seal for my 9mm ammo

For got to add, I fired 150 rounds out of it with the crappy Walmart ammo, with only 2 jams but didn't jam with federal ammo
