Single-stack 9mm conceal carry pistol

been wrestling with this problem for 40 years.

I currently carry a Smith 642, and a Kahr P9, with night sights. The 642 has a Crimson Trace Laser Grip.

I can shoot the Kahr much better, and it's an eight shot, more powerful, and offers a quick reload. It is DEAD reliable with Federal 9BP's, my preferred short barrel round.

Of course, in high threat mode, or the clothing allows it, one of my Glock 19's are in the fray, with one of the smaller guns, as back-up.

An older, but high quality pocket rocket launcher, The Detonics Pocket 9:

Here is the Pocket 9 resting on top of a Colt Combat Commander .45 acp to give you a comparison of size.

Although a little bigger and not a single stack, the S&W Model 469 is an excellent concealable 9mm. Here's mine with a recent target that I shot with the 469:

The knife is by Jerry Hossom and is called a "Dogtag". I like how the 439 shoots. The target is 2 12 round magazines shot at 10 yards, a compromise defense range...

i can honestly say ive never seen that Detonics model, i thought all they ever made was the .45's. thanks for the pics.

Good suggestions. I did shoot a friend's Kahr the other day, and liked the feel of it. Only problem is that I'm a lefty, and the slide release and magazine release toggles were not very left-hand friendly. Otherwise, it was a nice pistol.

Anyone have any experience with Walthers or CZ?

I'm a Lefty and LOVE my Kahr CM9. I have no problems running the mag release to replace a mag and if you practice a bit, the slide release can be handled easily as well... either with a strong trigger finger pushing down or do a reach under and pull it down with your off hand.

Great little concealable 9mm.

I have often thought about selling but cannot find a suitable replacement. Paid $375 used (police gun) and did my own dehorning and 3913 grip mod. replaced the plastic rear sight with a plain rear novak. perfer a front dot only set up.

Rumor has it Glock is suppose to unveil its single stack (I heard 9) at the Shot Show 2012. No other info is avail.

If I was designing the mods myself, I could not do better than this. Very nice.

I bought a sigP6/225 a couple years ago. West German police turn in. I got lucky as it came with two mags. Some dealers would with hold the second mag and charge extra for it. Went on a West German surplus buying kick. Got the leather AKAH holster, 6 mag holders and then the polymer/leather holster. I like the latter one as I can wear it under a shirt jacket in cold weather and it won't print. I paid about $330 for mine but lately have seen them for sale at the $400 level. Good pistols, expect some finish wear on the slide from being holstered and maybe some dirt. Mine cleaned up well and is the best 9mm shooter I have. Frank

Frank, I will have to agree with you regarding the Sig P6; although it is a little top heavy and thicker then most guns in its class, they were (when available) one of the absolute best gun values ever offered.

Based on the markings on my P6 (the NW on the slide) it was issued and carried in the German State of North Rhine/Westphalia. Like you I have bought a few German surplus items including the leather concealable belt holsters (LH and RH) and recently the Sportsmans Guide had a special on used German Police Goretex jackets; Kelly Green in color with retroreflective stripes on the sleeves and the word POLIZEI on the back. Mine has a officer's name on the tag and is also from North Rhine.

We love single stacks

What can I say? The following list says it all about how much we like our single-stack carry guns.

In alphabetical order:

  • Dan Wesson CCO
  • Kahr CM9
  • Kahr K9
  • Kahr PM40
  • Kimber Ultra Carry II
  • Sig P232
  • Sig P238
  • Springfield 1911-A1
  • S&W 3913LS
  • S&W 3913NL
The Kahr PM40, Kahr K9 and the S&W 3913's are the go-to guns generally. The others fill niches.

FYI, we also have several double-stacks and enjoy shooting them every bit as much, but not for carry.

I recently splurged and picked up a Colt New Agent TALO in 9mm. Best compact 9mm I have ever owned. The TALO night sight is huge, and takes a bit of getting used to, but I liked it better than the standard trench sight. It won't displace my J-Frames as a primary carry, though as far as thin profile single stack 9s go, it is outstanding.

Mac the whole purpose of that nasty sighting trench is so you don't have to use any other sights! ;) It only took me a couple of rounds to figure out how to use the machined groove on the top of the slide. One of my newer acquisitions, a Detonics Pocket 9, has the same setup as the Colt; shooting it for accuracy was easy.

My present CC 9 is a 3913.
That said, after trying a Sig P250, if I was picking a new one, that would be the one. Really liking DAO in that one.
Wish my S&W could be converted to DAO

Your 3913 can be converted to DAO.

CQB 45, what is the 3913 grip mod? I have a CS9 with the rubber grips, the others look a little slimmer and less sticky. Also anyone, what is the difference betwen a CS9 and a 3913?

The 3913 is an 8 round TDA with a 3-1/2" barrel weighing 25 oz.. The CS9 is a 7 rounder, 3" at 20.8 oz.

I carry a LC9 and it has been fantastic. I would wait and see what is released at the 2012 Shot Show as so many companies are entering the single stack market. I am excited to see the new offerings.
