I'm interested in a 4006 on GB and it's marked LHPD and seller doesn't know which department it's from. Is there anyway I can find out by using the serial number to see which dept. it was issued?
I only ask as I did it with a beretta centurion and the serial dated it and placed it with the West Palm PD.
I'm just curious.

A little googling came up with the following possibilities for LHPD

Landover Hills Police Department
Lloyd Harbor Police Department
La Habra Police Department
Liberty Hill Police Department

The only one of these I recognize is La Habra, but that's because I live in Cal.

That's a tough one... most LE guns when checked by SN with S&W will show that they went to a distributor... but if the distributor is in the same state or known to serve the region where the potential LE agency is located, then you could possibly conclude that's a match.

I agree with the above post, but an expensive proposition to pay for a historical letter only to find out nothing. I understand your curiosity, but at the end of the day you bought it to shoot and you will love to shoot that one. It's a fine pistol….

When I talked with Customer Service all the info they would give is the Ship Date and no other , they told me they have no idea what state the gun was shipped to, I suspect they are not allowed to give that info out.

Cal44, I did the google and came up with the same four. I bought a 5904 on GB from a guy in Green Bay and though it has no markings he said he got two from Freedom P.D. A small town in Wisconsin.
I had only felt the heft of the 5906 at my local GS and this one is real comfortable in my hand. I can hardly wait to shoot it.
Off subject... I lived in Cal from 71-78. Went back for the first time in 07.
