Liberty Safes--Backdoor Combinations

If they’re served with a search warrant and they have the info sought, they have to comply - no different with a bank, etc. Regardless if it’s the safe company or the lock manufacturer who’s responsible for the secondary combo, it exist to help the consumer. I doubt that this applies just to Liberty. If the law has a warrant to get in your safe, they’re getting in your safe, be it the easy way or the hard way.

Lots of speculation here, but here is the probable cause statement: https://arktimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Statement-of-Facts-1.pdf
Here is the DOJ arrest announcement: Arkansas Man Arrested on Felony and Misdemeanor Charges for Actions During Jan. 6 Capitol Breach | USAO-DC | Department of Justice
Here is where all court documents on the arrest relating to Nathan Earl Hughes will be posted, likely in 30 days after arrest - you'll find a search warrant there if one was issued: Capitol Breach Cases | USAO-DC | Department of Justice

Ever wonder how cars with digital locks are opened?

I certainly don't believe Liberty did the right thing. Liberty should require a subpoena that orders them to provide any such information before releasing it to law enforcement. It's a basic tenant of customer confidentiality that many businesses adhere to.

In the long run, it really doesn't make a difference as a search warrant would allow LE to cut the safe open if the owner refuses to provide the combination.

My greater concern is the existence of a 'master code', but information on other sites about this incident seem to indicate said code is unique to each safe and referenced by serial number.

Liberty has apparently already changed their policy for these types of incidents, but it may be too little too late where many gun owners are concerned.

Given the way it played out, the safe may as well have been rented from the FBI.
The hard way in, should have been the only remaining way.

No one here knows that yet. Speculation doesn't count.

Below is a quote taken from a New York Times article by Michael Levenson.

“ A statement attributed to Mr. Hughes on the crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo says F.B.I. agents searched his home on Aug. 30. “They called the manufacturer of my Liberty Safe, got the pass code from them, and got into it too,” the statement says.”

My question is what is in the safe at home have to do with what happened in the Capital building? Just sounds like a fishing expedition.

Can be a thumb drive or other data storage. That's about all I can think of off the top that might be relevant. But given that the individual was not even at the capitol building at the time, I'm leaning in your general direction on this.
45-70 is the only government I trust these days.

Would you be so sarcastic if this had happened to you?

Believe me, sir, this would never happen to me.

I have made many mistakes in my long life, but there is no way I would ever, in a million years, be gullible enough to be duped into attacking the United States Capitol, nor would I attack the police officers defending it. I cannot adequately express my contempt for those who engage in such conduct.

...given that the individual was not even at the capitol building at the time...

What is the source for your allegation that the suspect was not at the Capitol building? The below press release contains a rather detailed account, from video footage, of what Mr. Hughes is alleged to have done. What contradictory information do you have?

"Court documents say that, at various points, Hughes pushed against the police line in the tunnel and helped other rioters physically fight police in an attempt to breach the line and enter the U.S. Capitol building. At approximately 3:15 p.m., Hughes was at the mouth of the tunnel and signaled the crowd of rioters, “C’mon! C’mon!” while waving his hand in the direction of the tunnel. After signaling to the crowd, Hughes entered the tunnel and charged toward the police line."

"Inside the tunnel, Hughes continued to signal others to enter and confront the police line. Hughes then stood shoulder-to-shoulder with others and began to rock back and forth in a synchronized movement with the crowd. At about 3:18 p.m., Hughes assisted the mob with forcefully removing police riot shields and passing them out of the tunnel. Hughes also personally attempted to forcefully pull away police shields and pass them out of the tunnel back to the other rioters."

So far as I know, searching the homes, cars, etc., of criminal suspects is pretty much a standard procedure. If I rob a bank, or commit credit card fraud, or mug somebody on the street, the police are going to get a warrant and search my home and its contents for evidence...it happens all the time.

By the reports I've read, the guy was never even there. He was merely connected to one of the groups as an apparent ranking member.
Unless he issued orders to his membership, he's walking on water.

same source as YOURS ..... the internet:D
Same place we find deep fake video and Facebook fact checkers.
Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted despite the medias best attempt to paint him a mass murderer.
Meanwhile, your source has recently charged someone for speaking (first amendment) out against the 2020 election.
speech crime .... in America.
