Hey all.

Can you all tell me what 1911’s S&W had that were lightweight or Scandium? Im most interested in the Commander size, but full size would be ok too. I don’t know whether they were in 45acp or 9mm.

If you could please list the ones you know about coming from S&W, that would be great. There were a couple of them that really looked great from what I recall. The one that I am trying to get details on was in Scandium and had a bobbed MSH.

Does this sound familiar? If anyone owns one, please give you thoughts on it. I’d like to look into getting a lightweight 1911 for carry, but I don’t know what to start looking for.
They don’t have to be currently produced.

Which ones did they make?

Thank you.

I HAD a SW 1911 Sc Billboard model and greatly enjoyed using it for Concealed Carry.....then several years fate struck me and thieves now have it.
What a great gun for this purpose.

Wish I still had it it!!!

My LGS where I work part time had a 1911PD that was pretty awesome. It went on an auction site for about 1400. The guy who bought it sold one like it a few years back and regretted it. He was determined to find another one.

I have had one for years. E-Series scandium frame. Nice gun. I almost never carry or shoot it because of the primer shortage. The only changes I made to it was to remove the ambidextrous safety and replace it with a standard left-side one to reduce the width in the rear frame area, and swap out the nice wood grip panels with plastic military-issue ones. Bagged up the removed parts to put back on the gun if I ever sell it. ( Not likely )
Comes with all the most useful extras already installed. Raised slide rib with grooves too. None of the crazy stuff some people like to hang on them.
I also have an old Springfield Armory .45 1911 I bought 25 or more years ago that is plain-Jane standard with flat black baked enamel finish with an aluminum frame that I have put a lot of rounds through.
To be perfectly honest, it functions just as well, and is almost as lightweight, and performs just as well as the S &W fancy gun at 1/3 of the price.

This Sc has been my daily carry for the last 10 years and I have zero complaints as it has never failed me and is very accurate.

I picked up a stainless 5" SW1911SC back in '05. One of the other guys at work ordered a black 5" SW1911SC version at the same time (both bought after an armorer class using the old armorer discount program). A little while after I got mine I learned they'd discontinued the stainless (slide) and light anodized Scandium aluminum frame model. When I called and asked one of the LE contacts why it had been discontinued, I was told that in-house marketing surveys had recently indicated the black models appealed to potential buyers more than the stainless ones.

Mine's been a fine 1911. The rear of the plunger tube did come loose after a few years. I didn't have the nifty staking tool I later added to my tool kit, so I let the factory replace it under their warranty. I decided it was easier to have the factory deal with pulling the tube from the aluminum frame. :)

I came close to ordering one of the E-series Commander size models, but got lazy and didn't order one when I could still use my peace officer exemption to buy off-roster guns (after they dropped the SW1911's from CA sales because of the microstamping requirement for new models to get on the roster). Sigh. I still regret not adding an E-series SW1911SC Commander model to my collection.

I really like carrying the lightweight SW1911SC compared to my all-stainless Colt XSE Government model, which I bought the same year after finishing a Colt Model O Pistol armorer class. Oddly enough, as I recall, I paid almost the same for both of them under their respective company discount pricing. Something like $695-$705, before tax, shipping and FFL fees.

Both of them have fed all of the various JHP Duty loads I've run in them over the years.
