So today I decide I'm going to feed my addiction and pick up another 15-22. This would have been my 5th one and I had a few ideas for it. I look online and Academy has them for $399. What they're calling their "hot deal". We'll I have to agree....it is a deal. So I call my local Academy and I wanted to make sure they had one in stock before I drove down there. I was put on hold and transferred around numerous times and after 10 minutes on hold finally the manager answered. She then walked back to the gun counter and she asked the fellow behind the counter. He said yes they had one (1) in stock. I asked if they would hold it long enough to get it, which was about an hour and a half. Once I arrived at the store they looked in the vault and produced a pistol!! I thought, what the....heck? I said no ma'am I wanted a 15-22 rifle. She said oh we thought you wanted a S&W 22. I then said I did, a 15-22, 22LR rifle. She said oh okay. Let me check. Then after looking all over behind the counter she found one box and pulled it out. She said it has a paper taped to it saying it's been returned for recertification. I then ask her what that would mean and she says she's not sure. I asked to look over the rifle and I took it down and it did not appear to have been fired. While I did this she made a call to someone, who I'm not sure but when she gets off the phone she tells me that who she spoke with told her the rifle had to be returned to S&W for recertification. She still wasn't sure what that meant but she also said they couldn't sell it. Okay....fair enough, they don't want to sell an unsafe rifle, I understand completely. I asked her about them accepting a firearm for return as I had been told on past purchases that Academy doesn't take gun returns. She answered by saying that's what she thought but she wasn't sure. Anyone know why they would've accepted a gun return, as if their policy changed? And anyone know what the recert would be? Maybe a safety inspection or is their problems with the 15-22 I may not be aware of? Anyways, now I plan to build out an AR instead, but I sure would have loved to do another lil black rifle!!
