Where do the locator buttons on Dillon presses go? Are they with my single socks? Is there some Island of Misfit Toys, Missing Socks and Lost Locator Buttons? There needs to be serious research on this question.

My shop vac ate some and I never could find them. Dillon will send more.

Funny you should mention. I just cleaned the shop vac and found one of the buttons that escaped weeks ago.

I bet the lost button is at the fourth station (crimping) and you were loading lead bullets. (Don't ask me how I know)

Sgt Preston here. I actually bought 2 spares of each size that I use because I thought I might lose one sooner or later. I simply added it to a larger order to save the shipping charges. I also bought Dillon's "spare parts kit" filled with springs, plactic primer tube ends, detent ball, etc. etc. Sgt Preston USMC LLA

I am normally quite careful with critical parts. I have good storage discipline and just DO NOT lose critical parts. HOWEVER, I haven't loaded .38 Special in quite some time (had a couple of thousand loaded). When I did need some more .38's I discovered my locator buttons for the .38 Special was missing. A diligent search failed to turn them up.

I called Dillon, and they went in the mail the same day. I had them in a couple of days - NO CHARGE! Dillon is AMAZING!

THAT is why I have two Dillon 550B's on my bench.

I have them all.
If you ever want to see them again untarnished, send me a case or two of WLP primers before the next full moon!

When I do a caliber conversion, the shell plate and all the locator pins go inside a sealable baggie that gets stored with the toolhead.
I have not lost any that I know of in many years.

Wheelgunner;
I store all of my shell plates and locator buttons in the Dillon blue boxes. How I happened to lose the .38 locator pins is a mystery.

Dillon saved the day.

Do you reload cast bullets? Do you coat them with something like Alox?

I have a "spare parts kit"...but have never dug into them...I keep them on the quick-change stands and they magically stay with the caliber.

Frank;
My revolvers and auto pistols are used exclusively with my own cast bullets. I lube.size with a Star lube/sizer.

Dale:

When I started loading commercial lead cast bullets I had leading issues. Based on some good advice I got here I started using Lee Liquid Alox and the leading all but disappeared. As you know, a soft lube like Alox can accumulate in the seating die and the crimp die so you have to clean them periodically. I was a bit overdue for a cleaning when the accumulated Alox in the mouth of my crimp die "captured" the station four button and lifted it out of the shell plate. I heard it hit the floor but could not find it until after I had vacuumed it up with my shop vac.

The ransom has just been raised to include 1000 .430 lubed and sized Keith bullets. Pay up Infidel, or you will never see your shellplate again!!!
