Lonesome Dove

They said it originally came out in 1989 - this showing was supposed to be the "digitally re-mastered" version.
I wonder if it's available on DVD

I bought the TV res version a couple of months ago before I heard
it was going to be on TV. "DVD's"
I got that off e-bay. If I remember right, some were selling
blu-ray versions. So maybe the blu-ray version is the new
re-mastered edition.
I recorded the programs off the TV both nights.. So I've got a
HD version now, even if it has the AMC logo's, etc.. :/

Yes, it originally aired in February of '89, and it is available on DVD. I just bought my dad a copy for Father's Day last night at Wally World. He had mentioned the other day that he only had a VHS copy of it.

And I agree, it is THE best western of all time, and one the best movies of an genre ever.

Thanks - I'm going to get a copy today - I rank this up there with "Jeremiah Johnson" as my favorite movies.

Conversion?

Dave, Gus was shooting a conversion. If so wouldn't the cartridge caliber have to be a current (for the time) round like 44 Colt or something? A caliber of power level common in newer lighter guns? I noticed in a closeup the gun was converted. If he was meant to be carrying a percussion Walker, then that completely justifies his reason for carrying that big gun for the reasons you mentioned, Dave. I haven't seen the movie in a while but I think the only time Woodrow Call shoots a gun is to scare vultures off of dead Gus. Gus gets to shoot lots of people.

Burp,
I did not know that.

Didn't see any changes to the pistol from that angle...
All I saw was the barrel wedge was stickin' out pretty good.

You can see its a conversion in this picture, but that is probably for the convenience of the filming.

When I enlarged the pic I can see the cartridge case head, I believe your right about; 'for the convenience of the filming.'

I'm tempted to say, "I rest my case!" but I too think the conversion was probably for the sake of easier loading for the movie. But they put it there and I take things literally in this movie since it's so accurate everywhere else. Like I said before, the Henry's are loaded even when they aren't being shot.
