Looking 4 a stand out muzzle break

I just picked up my m&p 15-22 a couple days ago and I'm a bit of a newbie. How exactly would you install the brake on the barrel? Is it welded or threaded on? Would I need a gunsmith to do it?

Is your barrel threaded? If so & you already have the flash hider on it, then you can just turn it out yourself. You may want to get some 15-22 vice grips to make sure only the flash hider is moving around & not the barrel but I don't know from experience since I don't need to take mine off. Muzzle devices are typically only welded on with 14.5" barrels with a muzzle device making the over all length of it to 16".

If you didn't get the m&p 15-22 already with a muzzle break, then you'd have to have the barrel threaded.

That is not correct. TactiCool22 makes an adapter for non-threaded barrels that enables you to put any threaded accessory on a non-threaded barrel.

Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 Threaded Barrel End for Non-Threaded Muzzles [TBE2] - $30.00 : Tacticool22, Tactical .22 Rifle Parts and Accessories

I use one with a Tactical Solutions brake made for .22s

2211 Compensator | Tactical Solutions

It does make a noticeable difference on my 15-22

PS - the word is brake, not break.

I used Jerry Miculek compensator on mine. But really there isn't enough gases to really make a real big difference, but it looks good and does eliminate what little re-coil that is left.. Here's a photo:
Purchased at either Brownell or Cheaper Than Dirt ($29)... good luck.
