Looking at buying a 5906 - prices seem pretty reasonable on them since there are quite a few available right now (LEO trade-ins).

Was wonder other than the TSW are there any other variations? I have seem some with silver trigger/hammer and some with black. I assume the black are newer?

Anything to watch out for on these?

Thank you!

Square trigger guard guns are early 1989-1990 or so production.
Round trigger guard guns are later.

Black trigger, hammer, are MIM parts, they are newer. The silver ones are forged and flash chromed.

There were some made with adjustable rear sights, but most likely not LE guns. Of course there were probably some of those sold to LE officers.

Built like a tank.

We should make a timeline of the 5906. With everyone's help and input, it would be pretty interesting I think.

The earliest ones had upgraded 2nd Gen slides -- I have given them that name/description, because the finish and letter stamping is exactly the 2nd Gen style and the eventual 3rd Gen slides finish and lettering is different. The first pistols also had a simple blade rear fixed sight, while details of the Novak rear sight were being finished up.

Lots of little differences moving forward from there, many of which were mostly in appearance.

Mine is a very early gun as it has the non Novak sights. It's my only 3rd Gen built that way. I'll take a picture and post it when I have a chance.

Yes, there are slightly different versions, it is hard to buy just one, they are great firearms:

I have seen both of these styles. Is one better than the other?

My other 3rd gens have novak sights. Those early sights look adjustable? Novaks are better i assume?

Nice photos! I have a boatload of regular magazines and some of the 20 round stick mags for my Marlin Camp 9. ( takes S&W mags.)
I gotta get one of these pistols!
