Looking for a 6906 guide rod

Color the outer inch or so with a sharpie marker then install it in the gun with barrel & spring.

Use a scribe of some sort to mark the length for cutting about 1/16" beyond the face of the slide. That will leave enough material to finish it nicely in case you cut is a little off. An X-acto knife is a good makeshift scribe and the blade is .025" thick.

If you drop a thin washer over the guiderod to rest against the slide face then index the X-acto knife against the washer & rod then spin the rod around a turn or so you'll scribe a clean line around the circumference of the rod.

Cheers

Hi guys,

got the guide rod from eBay...

seems new old stock, perfect fit, no issues whatsoever...took some pics...

thanks to jsbethel, BMCM & GaryS for the info and the help...

Now I just have to cut it...

Or leave it long and consider it a bayonet. :D That would make your pistol sooooo tacticool.

I ordered a "6904" guide rod from Brownells, said it was a "guide rod assembly", It was less than $6. Got it in and it was just the bare rod, no plunger or spring. Called back, they said they would ship another, got it in, same thing. Have got to call them again and see if they can get me the right rod. I plan on putting it on my 908 and replace the plastic one.

I have verified at my TV table work station that the same guide rod works on the 6904, 3913 and 908. I did try the full length rod from the 5903 and it seems identical except for the length, nothing a dremel won't fix.

"edit" now that I read through the entire post, I see you have already found a solution for your problem, please ignore my above ramblings....

I noticed the new guide rod for the 3913 and 6906 on both brownells and numrich does not have spring and plunger either. How are u supposed to use the things without those parts? I haven't seen them for sale.

Thanks,

Rosewood

Spring slides over it.then fit it in grove in barrel ....only two parts spring and rod.....

The one brownells sent me is in the bag, missing plunger on rod. The other one is from 3913. Just for giggles, I installed the brownells one, went in fine, racked slide and it fell out, the plunger is definitely required. Why the heck are they selling the rods incomplete??

Brownells says that is what S&W sent them and what they told them to label on the bag. Says "assembly" on bag. Going to give S&W a call and see if they can explain what is going on.

Maybe you're supposed to transfer plunger & plunger
spring, from old rod---see posts 17 & 18.

Wouldn't help much if you lost the old rod, though...

Exactly. Kind of hard to do that when I am putting it in a 908 with a plastic rod.
