Bud's Gun Shop has some listed in their Lexington, Ky retail store for $739. The listing says
These guns are brand new, but may have been display guns and have to be sold as used per S&W.

Stainless Steel Frame. slide, and barrel

2 10 round mags

Given how bare their shelves are I wonder if they won't sell pretty fast at that price? They have all the available serial numbers listed.

If you search SKU 022188877793 one of the items that come up is "Gun Deals" that claims to be a gun search tool.

There were 7 sellers last night - now down to 3 showing available- but oddly Buds does not come up. Must have been a couple of hundred or more out there - Get one quick.

Why not send a used one to BMCM for full strip and refinish, and add all new springs? It would be cheaper.

You know S&W won't warranty it, because they know it was sold as used. I'm sure it's in their database that way. Not that a warranty would have any value without parts.

Hey, nothing against a 5906, I have one.

I bought one, but it only came with 1 magazine. And also the photo buds has shows it having forward slide serrations but they do not. That said mine looks brand new.

Another sad day in California...

Unfired display guns!!?? :D

I collect Smith & Wesson 3rd gens! A pristine 5906 has been on my shopping list for some time.

However, thanks to the man-made border and stupid laws that separate my home state of California from the rest of the free country, Bud's will not be able to take my money.

A sad day on the west coast. Cry with me, friends.

Feel free to PM if you'd care to send your personalized sympathies--or your guns--to my home address. :D

I feel your pain quite acutely. I actually managed to snag a used 5906TSW police trade-in recently but that thing was incredibly scratched up, at least it doesn't look like it was fired much. Watching the parade of cheap CHP 4006TSWs dwindle to nothing and now all these pristine late production 5906s is a real kick in the balls.

There seem to be as-new 5906s showing up in a number of places, and I don't just mean Bud's gun shop, or guns with 10-rd magazines.

I grabbed a screen-shot of the label below, before it disappears

Purchased New 5906 in Sept. 1992, $519.00 + tax from Sports Authority
SN TVDxxxx, the the (then) recently produced round trigger guard. Still have the pristine original box and papers with Sports Authority price label on it, too.

Also purchased a lightly used 5906 with square trigger guard shortly after I purchased the above.

I am not sure if accurate but it has been related that S&W used up all of it's frames of the square frame 559 (or 659 ?) frame until they were all used up, then went to the round trigger guard. Not sure how accurate this data is but it's close.

Both have served loyally all these years and both still appear near new with only a few shiny spots on the front of the slide from the leather Holster, Bianchi Model #119.

I feel the 5906 was the pinnacle of the early S&W Autos. I call the "perfected" model. There was none better or more reliable.

My trouble is my eyes and 3 dot sights. with 3 dot sights at 50 feet can get them all in the black but with no distinguishable. repeatable grouping. HOWEVER, with a set of Millett sighs with the rear wing (similar to the horizon gauge on an airplane, and the red or white front "Squarish" shaped keyway front sight (elongated up the length of the sight) improved my sight mark immensely.

It is like this for me on all 3 dot sights... I can't stand them. Much rather have the winged and and elongated, highlighted, front blade style sights.

This is in my humble opinion. Heavy as it may be in stainless steel it's much more accurate for me with the 3 dot sights replaced with the Milletts.

I also have 2 M 39-2s with Millet sights, installed by Millett back in the day.

Shortly after I purchased the Millett installation tool kit for the 39 style semi-autos, all the way to the 3rd gen. The 39-2 requires the front factory sight to be milled completely off straight and smooth before the slide was drilled and staked in place.

The 39 and 59 had a unique rear sight that installed very easily. Lift tab, turn 90 degrees and lift out. Reverse to install new Millett.

Years later S&W manufactured a factory adjustable sight for the 39/59 models. It was a very low mounted rear sight that did not require the front sight to be milled off or altered.

This factory, rear, fully adjustable rear sight, was an optional sight as an accessory. Never saw one installed on a new gun delivered from S&W EXCEPT for the Connecticut State Police Commemorative with came standard with the factory, original, low mount, fully adjustable rear sight.

I saved several of these sights when S&W was clearing out some old stock about 20 years ago, if anyone need one ... I have several N.O.S. rear sights.

Best Regards, Sal Raimondi

Not a bad looking gun and night sights too (but dead) - but Old box and not quite the same animal.
The majority of the good ones out there are in newer hard cases - both the 5906 SKU 108176U and now the 5946 SKU 108186U and sale prices for the 5906 I have seen range from just under $600 to mid $7xx - (cheaper ones all gone now).
Plus some very used Police Turn Ins (and/or Import marked) in the high $3xx range too.

If the price of a new 5906 was $500-600 25 years ago, then $700+ seems ok (if not a deal) for a new-old-stock purchase. It is still a lot less than a new all-metal SIG P229 or P226.

Indeed, my friend. It is, very much so. We hurt together.

I'd let you borrow my ice pack when I'm done, but...COVID. Plus, that's just gross.

Yes, 100% agreed. Spot on. (I have a 226 that I also love--my favorite shooter of all--but yes, new retail they are quite expensive.)
