Hello, I have a .32 Hand Ejector Post WWII (Pre Model 30) Serial number 620941 that is in need of a replacement hammer. Can anyone direct me where I might find one? Perhaps a member on the forum has one to sell? Best Regards...

I find parts all the time on Ebay. Any non mim J frame hammer should work. I just bought a hammer, trigger, spring and strut for $50 to fix up a 36 no dash that had no spur.

There is another set buy it now for about the same amount and lots for $65 up

Just do a search for S&W J Frame hammer

Jack First is the first place I would look. I have never had success with Numrich/Gun Parts Corp.

I just picked up some shooter grade 36s one had a broken spur and the other was missing a thumb piece and Numerich was out of J frame hammers. Got both pieces from Ebay cheaper and faster than Numerich, who also sells their parts on Ebay as gunpartscorp anyway

Welcome to the forum.

Your pre model 30 is a Model of 1953 NEW I frame from 1954-55. It likely has the fine checkered hammer spur form the pre 1953 models or it might have the newer coarse checkered hammer.

Several model hammers will interchange with yours:
The I frame .32, Pre model and model 30 and 32, .38 S&W pre model and model 32 and 33, and the J frame 38 Special pre model and model 36 and 37.

You'll need to find a pre 1962 hammer with the ball socket hammer spring strut. Hammers made for the models above after 1962 have the fork spring strut; these will work but you need the fork spring strut as well.

And if you want the fine checkered hammer you can use a hammer from the above pre model 1953 models that have a coil hammer spring: Improved I frame back to 1952 and J frame back to 1950..

Thank you for the information. I will pursue the Classified Forum...I did not know how to navigate the thread, thus the late response. Gary

Read Hondo44’s two posts carefully. They tell you virtually everything you need to know about the what. For the where, eBay, Jack first, and Numrich in that order would be my search.
