I have a very close friend who's wife (who is also a close friend) is the President of the band parents for their son's high school band. (he is my youngest Godson) They are doing a trivia night (yes,I have to go) and asking for donations for the silent auction.

I am thinking about taking some .22 shells out of the bunker and making them up in a little foo foo basket and donating them to be auctioned off.

What say you, oh wise sages? Would I be wasting my time or do you think they would be popular? Some of them i don't have very much money in, e.g. box of 50 for 67cents.

That and with the no tolerance attitudes, might get the attention of law enforcement unfortunately.
Myself, no way/ no how would I bring ammo onto school property. You might end up losing any guns you have. Not worth it, find something else.

Just leave that idea alone or you will stir things. Get mainstream and donate a cake or whatever.

Boy, only you can answer that one.

Where my son goes to school they'd call the cops on me and probably social services too.

If that were my cousin's kid's school in LA, no problem.

My first blush response is absolutely not. Schools don't typically take kindly to anything gun-related entering the building, unless it's with or on, a uniformed LEO.

It will be held off-site, as they will have dinner and an open bar. Believe it or not, I didn't even make a connection between the bad press and schools.

But hey! That's why I came to the experts!

It's a shame, what this world has come to. You are trying to do a nice thing, and because of situations you had nothing to do with, your good intentions are for naught. Mr. Rhiner, I appreciate your effort and thought. I agree with my fellow Forum members that you should either offer something a bit more "safe", or perhaps, you could still offer the .22 ammo, but arrange for the winner to pick up the ammo at a local sporting goods store, or even at the local police station. It would be a bit of a hassle, but maybe worth it. As difficult as .22 ammo to obtain, you could get some really good bids for it and help the band kids out.

Best of luck,

Dave

I wouldn't do anything even remotely gun-related with something even remotely school-related. Even down in Texas, where they practically issue guns to infants when they are born... big no-no. Just too many uppity parents looking for any excuse they can to freak-the-F-out.

Like the others, I vote no. You will be pegged as that odd ball guy
who donated ammo. Some might even see you as dangerous. Why
take the chance.
