Hi All,

I was hoping someone on the list could help point me in the right direction for finding out what there is to know in terms of history and, while we're at, potential value of something I've had for many years now which is a:

"Cutaway View of the 38 Military and Police Revolver" that's 36x24 inches and at the bottom written in calligraphy says "Prepared Especially for the Toledo Police Academy".

I have larger pictures at my site as I didn't want to slow down the board with big page loads. If you click on the ics a larger one will display.

The item is not dated nor have I been able to find a signature.

While S&W's aren't the focus of collecting, as I recognize a new addiction just waiting to happen and pounce on me like crack, I do hope to one day find a nice Brazilian stamped 1937 .45 and I would really like a Victory in .38 Special rather than the anemic 38/200 the Brits seemed to like for some unfathomable reason... :)

Anyway, if any of you knowledgeable S&W aficionados could give any info or point me to a resource I would really appreciate ending the mystery!

I have the exact same print that I received when I attended a S&W Armorers School in the 1970's. I have it framed and it hangs in my home office. They gave one to every student. The script must have been added by whoerver brought it home.

As gaf said above, the Toledo Police info. is an after market addition. This poster goes back to WW2 and has been printed in various revisions ever since. Your poster is late WW2 as it shows the modified safety hammer block design. Later printings show changes design changes and, for example, "Bangor-Punta" added after the Smith & Wesson name at the bottom, etc. There are several sizes of this poster, as smaller complimentary copies were often printed and given away as advertising mementos, over the last 50 years.
