My Dad recently gave me a 32 cal 5 shot nickel plated revolver. I need some information on it.

Details are:
Smith and Wesson Springfield Mass, USA (stamped on top of barrel)

Pat May 11, 1880 / Jan 3, 1882 / Apr 8, 1888 (stamped on top of barrel)

Smith and Wesson trade mark (on right side of gun)
38629 marked on bottom of butt, underside of top break latch and on cylinder.

Smith and Wesson on the grips

Can anyone tell me some particulars on this gun. It is in really good shape. a few spots where the nickel is coming off.
Can this gun be fired with current rounds?

It is a .32 Double Action (obviously named in the era of truth in advertising), probably shipped in 1881. Can you post photos?

Dave, the pat. dates and ser.#38629 don't jive. Look for a ser.# on the rear of the barrel, in the same area as the top break latch ser.#. Is there a star after the ser.# in the butt? A photo of the revolver would lead us in the right direction. I shoot mine. Just be sure the ammo is ".32 S&W"

Pictures of my .32

Here are the pictures of my revolver.
The numbers that I indicated in my first post are the only numbers that are on the gun. Please help me with any data on this gu. P3070054.jpg
