hey guys, I am new here btw (hello!). my name is john, I am a local LEO and gun enthusiast. I have always liked the M&P line, have done armory work for the dept. and personally for friends/co-workers (lots of Shields- I have a G43 in that 'area' of gun size... my dept. will not allow S&W backups, only G27 or G43 so. both good guns). SO anyhow, I do quite a few Apex kits and parts on S&W pistols and have done a few jobs on J-frames. What I am getting at-

I started out with an M&P .40 (4.25") VTAC and LOVED the gun, but I was an unlucky one and my Lyman digital pull gauge showed about 8lbs new, 7.5lbs after 150rds... I was not shooting well as my big hands seem to "catch" the hinge safety every single time lol. In comes APEX.... after a full duty/carry kit, it came down to sub 5s/high 4s, VERY happy with that gun. its a favorite carry gun, a little large though for CC.

so after seeing the M&P 2.0, and reading reviews from 'trusted sources' I was excited for a 4" barrel, no-thumb safety 9mm 2.0. The stock trigger was SO much better, but my hands and that hinged safety still couldn't get along. So again I ordered an APEX duty/carry kit with a curved trigger, this was intended to replace my G19 as a daily carry gun. However, after doing the whole kit, my gun has two issues I do NOT like: I am trying to see if this is normal or not for you APEX users, and also would like to hear from the flat trigger APEX guys, as a part I feel will help one issue appears to come with flat kits but not curved (the 'forward set' sear actuator). Issue 1 is the huge pre-travel the gun has, it makes up about 70% of the trigger. I am not used to that at all, in any of the many guns I own and shoot... but it is crisp with no post travel after that, nice break and reset. Issue 2- Apex says a stock 2.0 is 5-6lbs trigger pull, and this kit in its entirety will remove approx. 1lb. My gun consistently registers sub 3lb pulls, and it feels like a competition gun, which is not what I wanted. I am going to install all stock items back, including sear, and just leave the APEX billet trigger so I can shoot it still. I am not sure how much that'll do as I feel like the stock trigger had a good amount of pre-travel, but at least the pull will be more carry-friendly. PLEASE give me your input, even if your 2.0 is stock. Thanks!

When I got my Shield I polished the internals including sear. This helped smooth it out but I wanted a better reset and more positive trigger break. I put in an Apex sear and it reduced reset and the break was like glass. I felt the trigger pull was a bit too light for me to carry. Apex sent me a heavier trigger spring and that put it back to around 5 lbs.

I installed the Apex 100-154 flat face trigger on my 4" m&p 2.0 c. Using the lightest weight combinations of springs (as per apex's flow chart) , I ended up with a trigger weight of just over 3 1/2 #'s. I did change out the sear spring (do not remember exactly which one) only, and was a bit over 4 #'s. You will be able to get a heavier pull if you want by changing the other springs (please refer to flow chart) if you so desire. Take up and reset was superb, although not as good as my 1911. Trigger pull is very crisp. Btw...I did change back to the lighter trigger as I use this pistol mostly for the range.

well the Shields I have done, which is maybe 8-10, all were awesome triggers. The trigger bar is adjustable for sear contact, and you can dial it in for the user... I love that setup. We also have done jobs on stock sears, etc too. They ALL come out fantastic. Just for me, normally having a G22 and three mags on me all day, I feel weird holding a single stack only when off duty lol.

that worked out great for you by the sounds of it, and of course no two guns are exactly the same (especially in my M&P experience lol). so im most interested in your take-up, how would you describe it? cause mine is 100% installed correctly, I am a certified gunsmith, and double checked it all. I saw the chart and my gun is like if you imagine taking the smoother, better APEX BUT lay it over the stock area for pre-travel. BUT as I stated above, your flat trigger kit came with an item to bring the trigger bar closer to the sear, and mine did not. Also I am not aware of how much closer (or further possibly... doubt it though) the ergonomics of the flat trigger compares with the curved... SO if you rated in %, 100% being trigger at rest, 0% being trigger at rear stopper, where would you say you start to get sear engagement? and where does the break occur? thanks for the reply btw man

I have been out all day. When I get home, I will take a moment and pull the m&p out, so I can try to give a response. Of ....just my subjective opinion

O.k. 3/8" take-up. 1/8" reset. 3.5#'s. No creep. Not gritty. Pistol is extremely accurate. I am happy with Apex.

I also put the 100-154 Apex FF trigger kit in my 2.0 5" M&P. If you have not seen it yet, scroll down on this page to the graphic that compares the stock and 100-154 triggers. It is a great representation of how the difference feels to me:

I really like this trigger now. It just super crisp with a short takeup. Makes it a lot easier to punch out bullseyes with the gun. But I do think their flow chart for trigger pull weights is out of whack. The combo of springs I used should have yielded a mid-4lb trigger pull. But it came out at 3.5lbs. And I read that is pretty common. I'm okay with it, as this is just a range gun for me. But I would not want to carry it with a trigger that light.

Hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction.

I do have a question, why does your department only allow Glocks as backups? There are valid reasons to prefer a S&W to a Glock. Someone in management who owns Glock stock or is a uber Glock fanboy? Don

No problems with stock M&P 1.0. and 2.0 Takes a little getting used to,
but is fine for a striker fired- no thumb safety model. Save your money
and use it for more ammo, and more range time.

I just picked up a M&P 2.0 9mm that I won at a pistol tournament. Being totally immersed in Glock culture, I am not really into the hinged trigger on the 2.0. I have been looking at the Apex Action Enhancement Trigger in both polymer and aluminum to change the trigger feel. I have no intentions of changing any springs right now. For what I want to accomplish, are these triggers worth the effort? This pistol will only be used to punch paper and ring steel.

The FFS kit has a combination of springs that when installed per the 'weight matrix' chart, should be able to give you a pull weight between 3-6lbs.

I went with the duty kit on my 2.0c and ordered an extra 'heavy spring' so I could test out different combinations of pull weights AND have a slightly longer trigger take up than the FFS. YMMY. Good luck call Apex and talk to them if you have questions.

Pretty common to get a 3.5lb trigger with the DCAEK kit in a 2.0. That's what mine ended up with.

I put the factory trigger spring back in and that put mine right at 4lbs.

I like all of my carry guns set at 5-6. With the reduced take up and clean break of the Apex trigger parts, it makes a great, easy to shoot well combo that's still CC friendly.

Just need give Apex a call at some point so I can figure out how to get my 2.0 Compact up to at least 5lbs.

exactly why I ordered the heavier spring. You need to test all combo of springs yourself. Each gun varies.
