Looks like a scam to me. What do you think?

The scam I almost fell for was a good one, but this one just SCREAMS scam.

Anytime anyone wants to pay you extra and you just deduct what you want and send the rest on, you are being set-up.

These guys are getting better, but you can still spot most of them a mile away.

I kind of like to screw with them and agree to accept the first check, but now they want a phone number first. It's not worth it to me to buy a disposable phone just to screw with these guys....

I placed a gun for sale in the classified section of a local web site, one that I have used numerous times in the past. This is the email I received.
By the way I said nothing about shipping.

(2) Mailing address, no p.o.box please
(3) Your direct telephone number
(4) Acceptance of my offer

NB: I will pay you $50 to reserve the Beretta Centurion for me.

Looks like a good spot to place your local law enforcement address and CLE name. Maybe they have some used glocks they want to get rid of.

This is the root of many scams. The con will send you a check/money order which looks so good that even the bank won't question it. All you have to do is deposit it in your account and send them the "change". Later you find out that it was bad.

Exactly. I have a friend who manages a bank and it amazes her how many people come in with these checks to cash. She explains the scam to them but some of these folks just won't listen and take the bait. And you are also right, she states you can't tell if it's fake just by looking at it.

FYI on another scam, does this number sound familiar? 1-702-705-7302? I received a call from that number and a fellow named John asked me when would be a good time to schedule delivery of the medical alert device that was ordered for me and has been paid for. What a deal. I've found that all I'd have to do is provide my cc number and agree to monthly payments for the service. What could go wrong with a deal like that? If I'd fallen for this, and my wife found out, I would need a medical alert device.

He called you also?

When he called me he would NOT shut up. I practiced my hang-up technique on him.

I used to sell some items on internet forums when I got an inquiry from a scammer I'd respond and get them to waste money sending me checks and information by courier I have a collection of checks letters anddocuments which are pretty funny, not if you fall for them though.
As mentioned above the bogus checks are written on supposed US banks which gives some confidence the ones I have are very realistic I never brought one to my bank but no doubt they would have cashed it back then maybe now they have some better security. Once the check bounces the bank takes the money from your account and you are screwed for the amount you forwarded the shipper or agent in some cases.
Here is a picture of three of the checks I received. Note: the last check is written on the "Bank of Montral" in Canada

Just got that call a few minutes ago. Getting to be a every night thing.

One giveaway that this probaby didn't originate within the USA is that NB bit. I saw that as a sort of postscript once in an Ian Fleming book. The term seems not to be used here, as a sort of PS.

This scam probably works out of an African or West Indies country. They'd use British terminology.

I can't read the checks in one post, but if the spelling of Montreal is theirs and not our member's, it's obviously phony. I'm pretty sure that a Canadian bank can spell "Montreal"!

BATF may run entrapment scams, but probably not using UK expressions.

I don't want anyone on the Net knowing my actual physical address, which is one of several reasons why I don't sell things Online. If I do, I'll probably get a P.O. Box. I worry enough about ordering via Amazon.com or L.L. Bean! If they get hacked, someone will have your address.

doesn't sound all that different from the "replace your old phone with a NEW one FREE" via the various cell phone companies...

I have received that exact same email trying to scam me before. I kept in contact with them just to see when they would give up. A pre-puberty boy with severely limited English even called me telling me his company will contact me and go ahead and deposit the check

That guy called me too. Wow this guy gets around. I wonder how successful he is

i built my daughter her own castle bed that we are no trying to sell and we put it on that one site with list in the name and got several emails almost exactly the same as that. it some something like i want the bed of my daughter and i have a shipping company that will handle everything, you dont have to do anything. then the person says that the amount we are asking plus 300 for shipping has been sent to my PP account, i check and of course nothing, so we go back and finish reading the last part of the email and apparently the money is on "hold" till we send the shipping company 300 dollars from us and then the money will be released into the account... total BS dont do it.

Sounds like a great deal to me!
If you ain't gonna do it please tell him to call me at BR549.
Thankyou.
