Looks like Helene may be a name to remember

It is not yet a hurricane, It is predicted to become a Cat 3

Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season

Brings back lots of memories:)

Squalls out on the gulf stream
Big storms coming soon
I passed out in my hammock
God, I slept way past noon
Stood up and tried to focus
I hoped I wouldn't have to look far
I knew I could use a Bloody Mary
So I stumbled next door to the bar

And now I must confess
I could use some rest
I can't run at this pace very long
Yes, it's quite insane
I think it hurts my brain
But it cleans me out and then I can go on

There's something about this Sunday
It's a most peculiar gray
Strolling down the avenue
That's known as A1A
I was feeling tired, then I got inspired
And I knew that it wouldn't last long
So all alone I walked back home, sat on my beach
And then I made up this song

And now I must confess
I could use some rest
I can't run at this pace very long
Yes, it's quite insane
I think it hurts my brain
But it cleans me out and then I can go on

Well, the wind is blowin' harder now
Fifty knots of there abouts
There's white caps on the ocean
And I'm watching for water spouts
It's time to close the shutters
It's time to go inside
In a week I'll be in gay Paris
That's a mighty long airplane ride

And now I must confess
I could use some rest
I can't run at this pace very long
Yes, it's quite insane
I think it hurts my brain
But it cleans me out and then I can go on

Yes, it cleans me out and then I can go on

The thing that burns my *** about all this is, those clowns from the Weather Channel will be there exploiting peoples bad luck, and worse yet carrying on like it's Armageddon. False news and exaggerated conditions help's nobody. I remember the idiot last yr standing in a puddle of water making it look as though the city was flooded. And the guy holding onto a stop sign wearing a bicycle helmet while a couple walked their dog behind them. The Weather Channel is posting their team (personalities) locations like they are talking about Football Sunday coverage………. It's the same thing in WNY with snow storms.

Got a "nephew" who's just finished some Air Force training in Texas. Been looking forward to going home to Florida to see his family. Orders just came down, no travel until further notice. Imagine he'll be in Texas for at least a couple days more.

They have warnings out for the whole state now.

I'm not surprised. Helene is a VERY large storm. Looks like its rain bands will cover the whole state with room to spare.

I'm about a half hour south of Atl and already have 3.5" showing in the ol rain gauge on the fence. Can't say I recall the entire state of Ga being under a tropical storm warning with the southern half under a hurricane warning. They're predicting wind gusts up to 65 mph Thurs. night. Is Greta right???? :D:D:D:D

The weather forecasters have the inexperienced public in full panic mode.

No bottled water to be had anywhere around here. Folks are losing their grip. It's Florida; if'n you don't like weather that can occasionally kill you, go back to where you came from. I shoveled my old "lead-sled" Oldsmobile out of a snowbank 1st week of 1980, been here since. Unfortunately, the Gulf Coast is like a giant catcher's mitt with no "batter" at the plate. Looks like them fancy 3 story condos they built on the "water side" of US 98 in Destin might be their turn. We'll see. Joe

The lines at gas stations were crazy today. Apparently no one thought to get gas over the weekend. We're predicted to get winds up to 50 mph and a lot of rain. Just another day in FL. For those in the panhandle area--another story. Folks we know in that area are evacuating to here. But getting viewers is what the news business is all about, even if the news is a bit "fudged."

Hurricane crawl: About 90% of them do it. The eye is predicted to hit a certain spot and it winds up coming ashore 50-100 miles East of the predicted landing. It did it again with the last Gulf hurricane. It was predicted to go right through fellow forum member Cajun Lawyer's house and it landed 50 miles east of there, and Caje went back to calmly drinking his Scotch instead of using it for nerve tonic. We'll see what this one does. I was working as a first responder (LEO) during Camille and Katrina. It ain't no fun but you do see some weird stuff. I'm 76 and retired now so all I can do when a hurricane comes along is batten down and hide like everyone else. I've still got supplies from the last non event. All I did to prepare for this storm is stock up on gas. I got mine early because there is a good chance the refugees from Florida will be draining the tanks at our local gas stations. The local camp grounds are already filling up. If you can't find a place to park your camper let me know. I've got a few acres of open land behind the house and a small pistol range. Must be self contained. There are no hookups.

Felt the first puff and drops at 8PM here in SE Fla.

My wife and I enjoyed the heck out of our trip in June, I esp. liked the drive from Perry to East Point for our stay at St. George Island and visits to Apalachicola and Port St. Joe.
Breaks my heart to think what the folks and landscape up there will experience.
Saw a post or two from western NC and recall a trip to my parent's place just below Franklin after the rains from Opal in '95 (?) soaked the hillsides before the winds pushed over a bunch large white oaks that had been growing straight and tall. Sensing something similar again up that way.

Just got in from 4 mile walk, started pouring rain. Wind steady at maybe 20 knots, gusts to 30,maybe. Dark, ominous in the Southwest, where Helene is. Joe

Stay safe boys and girls. Remember what the great philosopher Ron White once said: It's not "that" the wind blows, it's "what" the wind blows. Worst part is the aftermath with no power and lots of mosquitos-I hope this is not as catastrophic as the weather ninnies are making it out to be.
God Speed all of you.

I have a friend that owns a second home in Crystal River. I've heard the storm serge in that area could be 15+ feet. He's doing what he can. His house is a couple minute boat ride to open ocean.

I think he needs more blocks.

Meanwhile, back at the Demon-class planet, it's moving back over 100 degrees thru next Tuesday, depending on your weather service. Guess NV Energy is short of $... East Coasters: be careful out there!
