I was lucky enough to find 3 boxes of the 158gr Nyclad standard pressure ammo 3 years ago. I fired off 20 rounds and saved the last 130 rounds for my 1975 M36. That is some of the most accurate ammo I've ever shot. I hope the new stuff is made just as well. I do know it's very expensive just like Speer Gold Dot ammo is. (just over $1 a round!!!)

I read about this over at other watering holes on the net; I was very stoked to hear this and checked several places about ordering 2-3 boxes for my dad's 642; the lad's got the start of arthritis in his hands, so I wanted something that recoils less than +p loads;

I got reactions from 'they haven't made that stuff in years' (oblivious to latest developments in the shooting industry) to 'our distributor won't carry it since Hydra-Shoks sell much better' (basically a 'that would require me actually doing some work' retort);

I opted for Winchester 110gr Silvertips for the time being; guess I'll search the web for distributor

Yeah, it looks like the Nyclads are gonna be hard to find. Here in Mass. we can't even get them shipped. We have to buy from a dealer and it looks like not much tnterest there. I did pick up 50 rds. of +P Nyclad, 38 special from a guy on another forum though.

AND, unfortunately Federal is charging just over $1 a round like everyone else. They are selling them in 20 round boxes too, not 50 like in the past.

Buck-a-shot ammo and universally poor QC in the ammo industry have once and for all got me off the fence.

As my factory ammo is used up, I'm switching to handloads. YMMV.

I wish I could carry handloads but everything I hear tells me it's not a good idea even though I disagree. I just don't have the money to properly defend myself in court if I every have to use my handgun to defend myself or family and some overzealous anti-gun nut prosecutor comes after me because I use a handload instead of a very expensive factory load.

Weren't the original "Nyclads" an unjacketed design? I never saw any of them, I was just of that impression. Then again, I've honed the are of "being wrong" to a fine art.

If you have reservations about carrying handloads, or the ability to defend your use of them in court, then I think your decision is wise.
