My small dog with a big heart died this morning from heart failure. She was a 14 yr old chihuahua, she loved to sit on my lap on the front porch. It's hard when a family members like them leaves us (I'm crying as I write this) if you have a beloved pet don't take them for granted, time is short, and don't realize how much till there gone.
I usually sign off with SEMPER PARATUS
But I wasn't prepared for this

It speaks volumes about your character that at the time of such sorrow and pain that you take the time to tell us all to pay attention to how precious and short this life is for all of us, especially our canine family members.

"I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. . .I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost[.]"

I certainly feel your pain, and have many times over the years. However the joy a dog brings to ones life keeps me coming back for more. I'll make sure our little Lucy get's a special treat tonight. May the Good Lord ease your pain, and provide the right one to later fill the hole in your heart. God Bless.

I have not been able to "get used to" losing our furry babies. It hurts just as much every time, but the love we get from them while they are here makes up for the pain. Our Rocky is getting up there a bit and Petra is not but a couple years behind. I try to enjoy all the ups and downs every day and take lots of pictures. We have a digital picture fame that I constantly add pictures to in the kitchen. Mom and I can spend 15 minutes just watching the pics go by. There are 3 or four generations of dogs on it, plus generations of family as well.

Very sorry to hear of your loss.

I have lost beloved canine family members and can share your heartache. And no matter what they tell you, heartache is exactly what it is. I am happy that you were able to belong to her for as many years as you did.

God Bless,

Les

Your mind tells you going in, you'll most likely outlive your pets. Your heart tells you the unconditional love you receive is worth it, until the day when the two intersect and you must say goodbye. I'm still grieving over an Australian Shepherd I lost 3 years ago. I would and did rescue another puppy, I love him just as much. I still miss my Spock greatly.

I hope your pain subsides and you find something to fill the hole in your heart.

Sorry for your loss friend. Give it some time and then provide a home for a new dog. It is obvious your a lover of dogs and their are so many out there in need of a good home. Plus a new dog will help you heal.
About 3 months ago i had to have my friend Bump put down due to cancer and it wasnt an easy time. Fortunately since then Chico, my new taco bell dog, came into our lives and has helped us heal immensely. Chico now doesnt live with his old abusive owners and i have a new friend. It was good for us both. Good luck and best of wishes.

Very sorry for your loss Gripgrabber. I posted this (Rainbow Bridge) yesterday on another thread - it helped me and the wife deal with our loss - it wouldn't hurt to post it on this thread as well.

My Best Friend

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of all its beautiful colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who were sick, hurt or in pain are made whole again.

There is only one thing missing, they are not with their special person who loved them so much on earth.

So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring and this one runs from the group!

You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet, you take him in your arms and hug him. He licks and kisses your face again and again - and you look once more into the eyes of your best friend and trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together never again to be apart.
