Love for the 3913

3913

I have one and like shooting it, but it NEVER felt right as a carry gun. I guess I like Glocks and revolvers too much.

The 3913 for me was very accurate and I could hit where I aimed, but it never felt quite right. The Grip angle somehow did not work for me even though I was accurate enough.

I feel the same way, not so much the grip angle, but I think more because it is thin. I feel I'm always adjusting my grip, more than say, my Glock 19 or S&W 6904. Still a very accurate shooter, I just have to work harder at it. Maybe it's time for a Hogue grip .

I bought a used S&W 908 and liked it a lot, so much that I bought a second one.

I sold my first 908 to a forum member and the second one to my brother. I then bought my first 3913. I did not like the 3913 compared to the 908. The 908 was slimmer and lighter. I swapped that 3913 to a member in Florida for a Glock 17. That was a good trade for me.

I later ran across another 3913 and snapped it up, thinking perhaps I had been too critical of the model. Not so, turns out I just do not like the model so much. It is heavy and thick.

Somewhere along the way, I swapped a nickel 39-2 for a 3953. This one I really like, slim and quick to get working due to the lack of a safety to fool with. This S&W DAO system is not so popular in my area, but I like it. I do wish it offered a repeat pull on the trigger.

I have the 3953 also, I did a spring change and now the trigger pull is where I like it.

I got my first 3913 when they first came out ...... thinking this is the one.... but like you the grip felt to thin

Try the Hogue rubber grips only about $25.... if you like them the checkered wood are available at Hogue but more like $70- 100. IIRC

Hogue

Thanks for your input, I will be ordering them this week. True Dennis, the stock grips look awesome!!

A couple of shots of my 3rd generation compacts. I included my 6906 just because. I love the Hogues with the finger grooves that are on the 6906. I wish that they had made a similar style for the 39xx compacts. The 6906 fits my hand so well and points naturally with those grips. The Pachmayr Pistol Grip #3 is about as close as I can come. The 3913 got a set put on right after I took these pictures.

As you can see, most of them have the ambidextrous decocker/safety, except for the 3914NL.

I'd buy a 3913NL or even 3913LS if one came along at a reasonable price. I'd even think about converting the TSW to a single side decocker/safety, but the cost and availability of parts probably make that impractical.

Gary.....I can just speak for my 3913 NL that was repatriated back from Israel....but it shows very little wear.and the internals look new...it has been nothing but totally reliable in the short time I have had it....back in December and right at 1000 rounds.....I have gave it a workout because it's riding in leather;)....now....yep it has import markings...but if it gets bumped or bruised by chance I wont feel near as bad if it had been a pristine example.........p.s. ditto on the Hogue finger groove grips....my 6906 wears em...my sigP220 wears em....and I really would like em on the 4516-2 instead of just the panels....but you better have a big mitt to feel comfy

Alas, my state has stupid rules regarding bringing in firearms that are not on the approved list AND were not in the state prior to the 1998 crippling of our 2A rights. Which, in some ways is good in a way because I'd have a lot more guns and a lot less money otherwise.

I don't consider that I have large hands, but the glove size says I do. What I don't have are long fingers, I inherited stubby Russian peasant hands from my ancestors as all of them came from Russia before it was the Soviet Union.

The Hogues on the 6906 fit my hand better than any other grips I have. The double stack magazine is just a bit more weight than I want to carry around on a daily basis.

Which brings me to thread drift. Does anyone else wonder why there was never a 6906TSW?

I see not surprisingly the certain website selling various repatriated firearms are SOLD OUT of only 2 models.....................3913 and 3914.........who knew:rolleyes:

Wow! my mouth is watering. I snaged and managed to import a LINB 3913 TSW pre-rail into CA just before all 3913s dropped of the CA Safe Gun list. I would love to get a standard 3913, but unless one shows up at a LGS (unlikely) or at the meager SOCAL "gun shows" (EXTREMELY unlikely), I am SOL. :-(

Ironically, my 3913 is a former CA Dept. of Corrections gun that made it to MA. Is it safe to assume that they weren't available in CA when the state surplused them?

Gary,
I may need to be corrected here, as I'm not an expert, but I know the 3913LS and TSW dropped off the list on 12/31/13. I think the standard 3913 fell off maybe 6 mos. earlier.

I think the DOC surplusing happened considerably earlier.

Is it feasible to change out the double safety/decocker on the 3913 (or the 5906) to a single-side decocker/safety? I have a very nice 5906 I bought for $350 that I would love to convert... I wish S&W made a run of 3913's, which to me is very similar in concept to a Sig P239. It would be costly to manufacture make an all-metal gun, but I think they could sell them for $800-850 (which is what the P239 goes for).

To me, it's incomprehensible that a gun like the 3913 could fall off the list in even an evil place like the current California.
I so miss the California of my youth.
If you people ever bring back the California of the 50's and 60's please let me know. I'd love to come back. But, I'm not willing to give up most of my income and most of my firearms to assuage the sensibilities of the commie people you've let control the state.

Colorado is bad enough. Although, we're seeing a resurgence of reality here!
