I am considering purchasing a 2" model 64 with a factory bobbed hammer. It is either a 64-4 or 64-5, and in very nice shape, fired little, with only minor handling marks. Box, docs, and original grips included. I believe that it is an NY-1, as described in SCSW. Are these worth any more than a run of the mill 2" M 64?

Thanks in advance.

Personally I wouldn't pay a premium for any department marking. Also not a fan of DAO. If they're asking much over $600-650, IMHO I'd say it's too much. IIRC I paid around $550 for my 2" 64 about a year and a half ago.

I saw a somewhat nice with holster wear 2 inch 64 NY-1 sell on GB a couple months ago, by a forum member. I believe it went for $800 or so.
There was another in a Long Island gun shop that I linked to a guy on this forum looking for one, it was listed at $550 before shipping.
I have a like new one with original serial numbered box, and it's not for sale. They only made a few hundred of the 2 inchers.
Mine will never be for sale at any price.

I have a 4 inch barreled variety of the DAO Model 64. It was a re-import, I think, from somewhere. I'm pretty sure it's marked by CAI so that would prove it but I'm not at home to look at it and I have a couple of guns like that. Pretty sure, though. I only bought it because it was marginally unusual for my collection. I am certain I didn't pay more than around $350 to $375 for it and that's not even two years ago. I sure wouldn't have paid $800 for it.

BTW, it has the worst trigger I have ever touched - if I plan to fire that gun again it will need a serious trigger overhaul - after a box of ammo I couldn't pull it anymore, my hand was that tired - and that has never happened before. 15 pound pull, maybe 20, who knows??!!

I bought 3 of them a year ago at a gun show. $350.00 each in 2,3,and,4 inch barrels with consecutive serial numbers. And I will NOT SELL THEM. They are in the family safe of all my collector pieces.

I just picked up an early non vapor hone 64-5 for $280, they don't carry a premium unless they're new in box.

I collect NYPD guns and I needed one:)

Man, I remember guys selling their 64's and GP's for 75 bucks when the job went to semi autos. A DAO Model 64 is not worth more then 250 bucks to me, and even that is on the high side. I sold my Ruger SPNY 2" for 150 bucks 5 years ago and was happy to get it

I remember the days when I had trouble selling my grand national for a measly $3500...in good condition. Not to mention the days before that when chevelles, mustangs, camaros, challengers, etc were left to rot in a field. Times change wether we like it or not. Unfortunately the prices of revolvers has sky rocketed (think python).

You might have been happy selling your spny for $150, but the store I bought my ny-1 just sold their spny for $320. I wish I could get these guns sub $200 on the norm, but I think those days are gone.

Yeah, I know times change, and I believe a standard DA/SA 64 is worth 400 bucks, but not a police issue bobbed hammer. If I was given one I'd spend the money to restore it to SA capability. The bobbed hammers just look wrong to me. What I'm saying is the DAO should lower the price substantially

I get what you're saying. I'm thinking the ny-1's are climbing in value because the "features" of it came that way from s&w. And of course law enforcement revolver collectors would probably pay more for them too.
