M&P 15-22 Picture Thread

A few recent changes... really liking this setup. Apart from a new trigger (pending), I think this'll be my keeper layout ;)

Cheers! I am a big fan of the foliage green colour :)

Re: the Magpul BAD - sorry to say but it's really just a case of trial and error with the bends until it fits the lower. Nothing fancy; used a combo of a kitchen blowtorch to heat before bending, a vice and rubber hammer. Some marks to the finish, but I touched these up with a Birchwood Casey flat black aluminium pen.

Key thing is to make sure that the lever stays far enough out from the back of the mag release, so that when you drop an empty mag, the BAD doesn't automatically get pushed and drop the slide forward.

Alright, I've gotta ask - why do you have a regular foregrip and an AFG?

Also, I know the riser isn't meant for most ARs - I'm assuming it doesn't interfere with the charging handle due to the shorter action of the 15-22?

I've been wondering this myself. I use an AFG on my .223, so I'm familiar with them, and I'm wondering how and when and why I would transition part of my hand back towards the stubby grip.

I do like the gray color treatment; haven't seen that very often. Nice!

Made a couple of changes to my M&P 15-22:

- Added a CAR-1
- Replaced my UTG Red Dot with a Primary Arms Micro Dot
- Swapped out my Hogue Grip for a MOE Grip with MIAD Wedge
- Moved my AFG2 to the front and RVG to the rear (why..cuz I have the rail space :p)

I really like the AFG in general, and always use it for shooting from furthest distance at my club (25 metres). However, I found that in tactical comps (where we'd be running down to shooting points at 10m) I found myself wanting to use a mag well grip at shorter ranges, especially after a mag change. The RVG lets me get a close-in grip for short range quick target acquisition without hanging on the mag (with the feeling of the load assist button jerking up underneath fingers!).

Looks like ECLIPZD95 has the same idea :)

The riser only interferes with the charging handle with the CTR closed or at first extended position - I pretty much only use it on the second extension (as shown), where it's not an issue.

Oh, and the colour is foliage green - which does have a habit of appearing as a nice urban grey under various lighting

Bluelizard - Yup...I took your advice on my previous pic post about swapping the AFG2 & RVG around. I actually find this set up much better for controlling the rifle when using either the RVG or AFG2 at the range. Thanks!

No problem. I see quite a few similarities in our setups; we seem to be thinking along the same lines!

I'm curious as to how well the grip wedge fits with the MOE grip - I was led to believe that the wedge would work with the MIAD grip, but not with the standard MOE? Looks good on yours :)

I had to trim about a 1/2 inch off the bottom of the wedge and then use my dremel to sand and shape the wedge to make it fit. There is currently about a 1/16th inch gap between the top of the grip and the lower near the rear detent spring. The locking pin still works perfectly, but I'm going to sand the wedge a little more to make it completely flush.

wouldn't be much of a transition anyway, unless it was to a magwell grip ;) pretty tight rail setup. tough looking AR

I felt the Vortex Strikefire red dot scope was a little on the big side, so after reading many positive reviews on the Primary Arms Micro Dot (Aimpoint Micro clone) I decided to order one up to try out.
I like the smaller size of the PA one over the Vortex.

The guy at Primary Arms suggested I go with the fixed base Micro Dot, and add the UTG base to mount it on.

The green laser I ordered is pretty nice for $50.
I would say the dot is on par with my $460 Surefire X400 which is on my Glock 21SF (red laser) which also has a 170 lumen flashlight.
The green laser is HUGE though.
I did take off the Picatinny rail that was on the bottom of the laser, as I do not plan on mounting anything to the bottom of the laser.
That lightened it up a tad.
I am also not using the optional tape switch with it that replaces the tail cap, I am just using the switch on the side.
I really do not need a cord hanging off the side of the rifle.

Compare my Vortex Strikefire to the Primary Arms Micro Dot, it is honkin' big.
I really like the smaller size of the PA one.

Also got four more of the S&W 15-22 25 round magazines, as they were on sale at Midway for around $15.
I now have a total of twelve of them.

Going shooting tomorrow when the indoor range opens up.
Will also be taking my Glock 36 (45 ACP) along to shoot aslo.

Nice guns. What hand guard do you have on the bottom gun?

Nordic Components Small diameter handgurard. I think it is 1.62" diameter. There website states it is made for dedicated 22 uppers with no gas tube. I really like it. It allows me to get my hand out farther and it's light, weighing in at 10oz.
