M&P 15-22 Picture Thread

I bought my 15-22 to be a training aid for carbine classes and less costly practice. I have found it to be very useful in that role, and to my surprise, has been one of the most fun guns I have ever shot.

It wears a Vortex Strikefire and Magpul MBUS rear sight, just like my battle rifle, and the same M.O.E. grip, and stock as well. Future plans include the same trigger (RRA 2 stage), and a similar light setup like a G2led in a VTAC mount. My SHTF carbine wears a Surefire/Viking Tactics Scout light.

Of course my goal for this rifle is to be identical in every way except caliber to my SHTF carbine. When the mid length M.O.E handgard comes out, it will go onto my battle rifle, and hopefully, in that time, I can convert the 15-22 to accept the same. I will not be really upset if I have to end up keeping the railed forend, but I would prefer a more conventional handguard. Anyways.............this is the pic thread, right?

We share similar 15-22/AR concepts.

AFGs seem to be very popular on 15-22s

My sweetie surprised me with an AFG (and a JP 3.5 spring kit) a few days ago as part of the "birthday barrage". To me, the AFG makes holding the rifle more comfortable and "natural". It's not a major difference, but a nice one... plus it looks kinda cool IMHO. (the spring swap and surface polishing will take place this weekend).

I'm still a big fan of vertical grips. Using them far out for the thumb break style that the Magpul guys teach is a little less comfortable, but it's more versatile in my mind.

Vertical grips take up less rail space so you can use the grip space behind it, and they allow you to get a really nice locked in grip from behind when shooting in a more traditional target stance. They also give a better relief off the bench when resting the front of the gun, and more distance from a hot rail from extended shooting.

AFGs certainly look cool, and are great when they suit the style you're shooting. For me it would be perfect if they made it a little steeper on the back side to have a smaller footprint on the rail and to make it much more versatile.

What is the red dot & mount on little brother?

The red dot is a Sig Saurer, that came with my sig 556(Made in china! you would think Sig would put a USA made sight on their guns for what you pay for them), I have put a scope on the Sig, so I had the red dot laying around and decided to try it on the 15-22, well when I first put it on, it sat too low on the rail. I drove over to Primary Arms to see if they had a small rail to raise it a bit. Well they just happen to have a YHM 1 1/4"L x 1/2"H mini rail for $14.00 got it and it worked out prefect. I can use it as a co-witnessed sight or turn the red dot off and I have perfect picture thru it, to use the iron sights. :D

Well, I bought one of these and threw on an extra Aimpoint I had for the first range session.

Then, like many of you, I had a Magpul party.

It is sure easy to add a lot of money to these little rifles in a hurry!

nice little collection you got there. I can already see you've added some tacti-crayola to both of your 15-22s, nice job!

I made a thread but I guess they should have been added to this collection instead..oops haha

Well done sir I do believe your the first person on here to actually paint there 15-22, congrats I think it looks good just better hope your accessories are gonna be paint to match as well.

I think I have finished "pimping" my 15-22. I added a BSA RD30 Red Dot (freebie with gun), a Magpul AFG and a Hogue grip, plus a Midway soft case to carry it to the range.

Rifle
Sorry the picture didn't post. For some reason, I cannot do that on this forum. Quien sabe?
