M&P 15-22 Results, Post 'em here. I got Mine!!

That is their new interceptor? Doesn't even look plated at all. Have you fired any of those?

Are you sure that is the same stuff?

Not the same. Just an illustration of the difference between marketing and the real world. The ammo in my image is actually Eley.

Did you even read my post where I put that picture of Aguilla Interceptors?

Even I am not that stoopid. :D

I confess I do that too sometimes, and for the same reason. So I do understand. :)

I bought my MP15-22 about 2 months ago and paid $489 out the door. I shot about 900 rounds using a variety of ammo including CCI mini-mags, Federal Lightning, Federal hollow point bulk, Winchester Super X, Remington Thunderbolts, Remington Vipers, and stardard velocity CCI. with 3 malfunctions: 1 with the Remington, 1 with the CCI, and 1 with the Winchester. I shoot a lot of rimfires so to me this amount of ammo-related malfunctions is quite low. However I did have a big malfunction with the gun itself. I was about halfway through a magazine when it failed to fully feed a round thus creating a big boom (technical term) causing the extractor to fall out and I was unable to recover it. I contacted S&W customer service and the guy on the other end was very friendly and helpful. A free Fed-Ex return shipping label arrived in just a few days and off it went back to S&W. It returned in less than two weeks with two free magazines. Very nice! Post repair I have put another 100 rounds through it. Hopefully, this time it'll make it more than 900 rounds. I don't need any more magazines.

I've added a CAA collapsible verticle grip with storage compartment. I'm glad I went with the collapsible grip because when I want to use my shooting rest all I have to do is pop the grip up. I also use the grip to store an extra battery for my Sig Saur STL-900L laser/light which is the other item I've added. I originally had the laser on my XDM 9mm but it fell off during firing a couple times. It's now a permanent fixture on my 15-22 because it's not going to fall off on this gun. With the laser I'm shooting some very tight groups but most of the time I'm using the iron sights and I'm quit pleased with the accuracy although I mostly shoot at just 25 yards. I'm considering adding a Primary Arms red dot sight at some point.

My first range session with this gun attracted a lot of unwanted attention. I had one guy think I was shooting an automatic and then had a game warden tell me I had to take my "AR" over to the rifle range (I was at the 25 yard pistol range). It took some explaining for me to convince him that what I was shooting is a .22. He pointed at my pile of spent casings and said, "you're telling me THAT gun shoots THOSE?". I then showed him the loaded clip and he said, "cool!".

This gun is a lot of fun to shoot, looks really cool, is easy to clean, and is backed by Smith & Wesson customer service. Because of this I would buy this gun again at the same price.

I love it when a range dunderhead, after whining straight to "teacher", can be put into his proper place: "teach" now wants to go out and buy one too!

I still have the original grin on my face I had when I bought my rifle. Much nicer to maintain than my 10-22. I still want a few 10-round magazines for the bench and can't wait quietly for any new versions of the rifle to come out (full-length rifle, threaded muzzle, handguard/stock variations). The sky's the limit!

how about a .22 WMR upper with clips? that would be awesome if they came out with that

I'd settle for a .17HM2 version or conversion kit. Same mags. Awesome ballistics. It'll go through steel silhouettes at 50 yards!

I had a similar experience the first time I took my gsg-5 to one of the local ranges, which is primarily used by hunters to sight in there rifles. In washington, while supressors are legal to own, it's a felony to discharge a firearm with one attached. So here I am shooting what looks like a 9mm subgun with a supressor attached, with the report of a 22lr. One member starts yelling at me that "you can't shoot that here!" and "you better leave before I call the cops". I ignored him, and he ran off to the range office. Luckily, the range officer has a pretty level head an actually came over to take a look before jumping to conclusions. The range officer took a look at it, smiled, and asked to give it a try. You should have seen the look on the other member's face when the RO did a mag dump, and handed the rifle back to me with a smile on his face.

I would like to see a .22 WMR version with a similar magazine as we have now, except straight and with metal lips, and a decent barrel mounted flip up front sight would be great too. Threaded muzzle! I almost forgot.

Sign me up for that one.

Wait a minute. Would a barrel change do it? Our mags and BCG would be .... I gotta call Thompson Center tomorrow.

i thought they were going to stop producing the .17hm2 ammo?? also, it might not apply on this gun, but i know on a 10/22 you have to put the weighted bolt handle in to slow the bolt down to compensate for the faster round. i used to have a 10/22 converted to .17 hm2

Thank you Braden. How was that 17hm2 for you?

Are they going to stop producing those for sure?

I have heard about cases blowing out, so slowing the bolt may indeed be in order. I wish someone would address the topic pretty soon, in print. I want to buy a barrel...

Thank you Braden.

Maybe it would best to wait on that then. I keep hoping CCI or Aguilla will come out with an improved 22lr. I think they just may do that soon. Just a feeling.

well whats your thoughts on a .17 HMR? I know lot of people that have had lots of great luck with them. One of my friends had a marlin heavy barrel gun in .17 hmr and it would shoot sub 1/2" groups at 100 yards right out of the box. And you can pick one up for about half what a 15-22 costs

I have no experience with them. Really I had only seen those rounds at the store, wondered about them, and then didn't think much of it until this thread. About all I can say for sure is, that I wish I had a 15-22 in .22 magnum, and so I guess .17hmr would be great too. :)

Not that 22lr is anything to sneeze at. Good shot placement and it is a serious round. I sure would not want to be hit by one.

oh yea the .22 lr is definitely capable of killing. Its just the energy that it lacks. That and the ability to shoot flat. When zeroed at 50 yards the .17 HMR will barely drop any at 100 yards. I used to favor the .17 HMR when it came to rimfire varmint hunting but since Hornady came out with there .22 WMR with the 30 grain v-max bullet it changed my mind. You can get comparable velocity to a .17 HMR with an extra 10 grain bullet. Which transfers to more energy, which means more killing power :)

I don't know if it would be either possible or feasible to retrofit a 15-22 to 22 WMR, with a new barrel and bolt etc., but I wish it would happen. I think that round, may be too long, for doing something like that. I dunno. Like I said, I wish is all. :D

That's right! I forgot all about that possibility. Just like any other AR. I bet they will offer one too. Can't wait! :D

They'd have to tool for another whole magazine, and probably a heavier bolt and springs. You change one thing, it throws the balance off the blowback system. 10 round mags would suffice with ammo at that price. I drool at the possibilities though. They'd also have to rename it something like the M&P-15RF after they expanded the caliber offering.

Getting back on topic..... Has anyone experienced any problems with the newest ones out there?
