M&P 15 warranty question...

I have done some search and have read the M&P15 only has a one year warranty. Is this correct, I thought they were a lifetime like the handguns. If it is, it is what it is I suppose. I am going to pick up a MP15 and just wanted to be sure.
I belive it is a decent rifle from all I have read, but if the warranty was for a lifetime it would be even better. There is not alot of info in the search data, so if there is anyone that has one can provide further info or experience with them please fill me in. I am comfortable with S&W offering a reliable rifle and from the length of time they have been making them so to speak. If they are making them mainly in house it is a better thing I guess. QC if nothing else. Is there a better round or bullet weight that seems to perform better. The twist ratio somewhat tells me which grain should work better, but a hands on experience would be great. Also if there are some minor aftermarket acc to improve its function chime in. I plan on keeping it simple as possible. I do not want to load it up, with tacticool just to be cool looking. A good sling will be added, I know which one I am looking at and mags. Possibly a simple but good optic add on. Upgrade a rail, detatchable light, and possible a fore hand grip handle. I want to keep the weight down. It will more than likely be a rifle for the females in the family. I personally perfer the AK for a SHTF rifle. Thanks.

One year is correct. I have two M&P 15s, the "A" and a "T" and love them both, 100% reliable since day 1. I have only shot 55grn and 62grn thru mine but the 1/9 twist should be good thru about 67 or 69grns. As far as accessories, I swapped my stock on the "A" to a Vltor Emod as it fits me better and put on a Midwest Industries Quad Handguard so I'd have the rail system. I changed the grip to a Magpul MIAD, put EOTECH 512.A651 red dots on, a Mako T-pod vertical foregrip with built in bipod plus a Insight light/laser combo. These things get spendy quick but it's one of my few hobbies and I have the $$ so what the heck. Both are extremely accurate and i get sub moa groups at 100 yards easily. Only other thing I have done is switch everything from black to flat dark earth which is kiind of a dirty tan which I prefer. Here is a pic of my "A" which has most of the mods. Excuse the mess, my shops kinda torn up at the moment.

Added, go with PMAGS or Lancer L5s if you can find the, they fit fine unless you get an early gun (serial 5xxx and under) which I doubt you will. Also remember these things like to run wet so don't be afraid to lube and lube well especially the bolt carrier group. Any other questions, you can-mail me at [email protected]

Thanks guys for the imput. One more question, or two. Yall obviously have a M&P15, in yalls opion, how does it rank to others in the same price range. You know if you ask folks which one would you buy, you get well I only buy x or I would get that but can build one better for the money. However in the same breath, they tell you the parts on the M&P is what I would use. I guess its the internet. Or the only thing they would buy or recomend is what they own, bla,bla. For what its worth, most all I have read is good. One person said it is a great rifle but it could be better if only did this or that. Mostly, regarding after market add ons. To me that is not telling me the overall quality/reliablity. I don't mean to be long winded, but i belive it is a good gun. However you always like a bit of comfirmation on your purchase. Make sence? last spring i purchased the 15x...i love it...no problems or issues whatsoever...i did add an eotech to it recently....you will be very pleased with your purchase!

Thanks for all the info, however my deal fell thru today. Long story short, no fault of mine or the dealer. I guess I had counted my chickens before they hatched. Someone prior to me wanted to buy it, and did not put any money down. The inital background check came back conditional for him. It took several days to get a responce or approval from the state. I said I would buy it if no favorable background came thru for him. It would have been mine today at 4:00 oclock, cause the dealer said he would wait a total of 5 days for an ok. It came back at 3:55. Favorable. Missed it by 5:00 minutes. Oh well so much for the M&P15. He could not get any more for awhile, his dist has them on b/o.
Here is the good part though... sorta. He had gotten in two AR's from SOG ARMORY, of course they were more money. They had several more goodies on them, match bbl, match trigger group, single point bungy style sling, two mags, PMags from magpul, and a few other that escape me right now. He also threw in two boxes of ammo 20rnd Western brass 55 gr and an extra Charles Daly mag for my troubles. That helped a little to off set the extra cash I had to make up. Oh and the case was a bit heavier than the S&W. He told me the SOG's were very fine rifles, mainly sold to LEO and goverment agencys of somekind. I was able to look at both side by side and I am very pleased. I kinda had my mind set on the S&W, but pleased with my deal on the SOG. I am going to do some more research on it and post results. M&PSport AR 15 Sport Warranty

I just bought the Sport and I am looking at the warranty / lifetime service policy and here is what I make of it... The initial warranty against parts and workmanship is for 1year. After that the "lifetime service policy " kicks in. They sound like one and the same in effect but the only difference I could see is that the initial 1year warranty covers EVERYTHING. Faulty parts, finish wearing off, major malfunctions, etc... The lifetime service policy covers without charge, any defects in material or workmanship for the life of the owner if the registration card is filled out and sent in within 30 days from time of purchase. I hope that clears things up for you guys.
