M&P 340

I've had one as a BUG/off duty gun for over 5 years. Mine replaced a 442, and I think it was worth the money to upgrade. They're a nice revolver, I think you'll be pleased with it.

I have an older sibling, the 340sc. It has the silver finish and titanium cylinder. It is a joy to pocket carry, and yes, I too have forgotten that it is there ;)

I don't think a more perfect pocket carry gun exists :)

If it feels like it "bites" a bit much with those grips there are some replacements that really smooth them out without being too large. I've been using a set of Uncle Mike's combat grips for a long time. I run those grips on all my revolvers except my square butt model 27. Also the Pachmayr Compacs are great. They give some cushion for the web of your hand against the backstrap.

I, too, carried an M&P 340 for a while. Didn't even mind the recoil with Magnums but moved to a 640 Pro and am happier with it. There's only a half pound difference in the loaded weight. I don't pocket carry, and I don't notice the difference in my Lobo Enhanced pancake.

I picked up a 340PD a few months ago.

Mine has the Titanium cylinder.

Weights 11.5 oz unloaded with the Crimson Trace grip.

Mine is an early version with the red ramp front sight.

Congrats! I finally brought mine home just a few days before you. Was fortunate to find this lightly used example with no lock, after having let slip two 36s and a 37..

Haven't shot it yet but hope to soon -

Loaded w/ +P 135 Gold Dots, mine goes out the door with me, 98% of the time. Reliable, easy to carry, & seriously over built.

Power to weight - can't be beat

Just picked up this roscoe today. The fit and finish are nice and the trigger is definitely nicer than my 642 was. The upgraded sights are helpful too. I forget it's in my pocket it's so light.

M&P 340 no lock is my most-carried piece. Sights help justify the higher cost. All but disappears in a Desantis Nemesis front pocket holster. Got lucky to get the call from Craig Spiegel for grips one month after I bought it. Arizona Gun Leather makes a nice OWB pancake.

135 Gold Gots :) Short-Barrel magnums are pretty hot and hurt my middle finger :(

Good luck with yours. I hope it provides years of comfort & piece-of-mind, and that you never need to rely on it in a fight.

Interesting to read this. I find mine snags its front sight and does not want to come out of any of my Nemesis holsters (I have a few.) They work like a charm with regular J frame front sights.

An Alabama kydex is my preference in the pocket with this gun.

Nemesis "02" holster?

Alabama sounds like something I should try. No issue with Kydex / Scandium wear? Cheap enough that I should at least put one in the boxo holsters ;)

Hmmm, I haven't had any issue with front sight snag. Mine exits the pocket smooth and slick. There is a small white 02 tag on the back that I assume is the size? I think I paid $12 for it online two years back. My favorite way to carry my favorite gun - nothing at all aggressive is implied when somebody has a hand in the front pocket.

From the DeSantis site:
"Applications: S&W J FRAMES 2"-2 1/4", M&P 340 2" TAURUS 85 2", S&W BODYGUARD 38; KIMBER K6S 2"

There are always debates as to what is the best carry piece. The honest answer is, "the gun you will have with you". That is where the M&P340 really shines. Over the years I've tried a few different semi's but never found anything I could really say was comfortable in all circumstances. A few years back I bought my M&P340 from a fellow member. It is the easiest most comfortable gun I've ever carried. When ever I leave the house it's on me. It's just so easy to tuck into it's holster and forget all about. I don't have to wear special clothing to conceal it and it draws and re-holsters easily. It is not likely to be anyone's favorite range gun but for carry it will be there when you need it. I have be lectured about how my life is in peril for only having 5 rounds at my disposal. I find it interesting though that most of those same guys will seldom have their pistol on them because they are wearing the wrong jacket or something. These are great little guns. No frills or anything. Just the bare minimum to get you out of trouble and home safely.
