M&P 45 Single Stack

It's my fault the 1911 was brought up. I was simply mentioning that if they had a single stack M&P in .45ACP, I wouldn't buy it because I'd rather have a 1911. I never intended to suggest that it would replace a 1911.

Based on my experience with the M&P, if I had to choose between an XDS and a M&P Shield in .45ACP, I'd take the M&P.

That's what I was thinking depending on the size of the 45 Shield. I'm coming to the conclusion my best alternative is to stick with my 1911, 45C, and keep carrying my 340PD on those light clothing days, which are very frequent here in Texas.

I bought my XDS the same day I bought my Shield 40 and love them both. Which one I carry depends on the day. They are virtually identical in size and weight.

I wasn't thrilled about the grip serrations either, so bought Grip Tape to cover them and it is much more comfortable in my hand. Liked the tape so much I put it on the Shield too.

Agree that only having 5 rounds is not a great thing, but the sound of a .45 is one of its other great characteristics. :)

I find the XDs .45 hard to rationalize. It's a pretty well documented fact that MEs don't see any real difference on the receiving end between a 9mm, a .40 and a .45. With so much really good 9mm ammo available why carry a gun with more recoil, muzzle blast and/or flip and less rounds available and also more expensive to shoot which equates to less range time for most of us? At one time the carry any caliber as long as it starts with a 4 may have made sense but any more I see the 9mm as the most logical answer for a daily carry gun both civilian and LEO. This is obviously just my opinion and I think it would be interesting to hear some others. With modern ammo why do we need anything bigger then a 9mm?

I won't go into a caliber debate, but my HD gun (M&P FS45) and carry gun (XDS45) are more accurate than any 9 I've shot and I would have no problem using ball ammo if that's all I had. I would not use ball ammo for HD in 9mm and I've owned many 45s from many manufactures in many different models and they are always superbly accurate. It's either that or every 45 I've owned fooled me into seeing groups that weren't really there.

I like and have 9mm handguns, but I prefer the 45. I don't mind the XDS and it's 5+1 rounds. It would be a lot harder to carry a 6 shot 45acp revolver with a 3.3" barrel and be slower to reload.

I carry a double stack or a single stack in .45 most of the time. It's not the only caliber I may carry, it's just the one I prefer to carry.

If S&W had made a single stack polymer .45 when I was looking at single stack .45s, I would have considered it. I still might get one if they come out with one that I find exceeds what my current single stack .45 does for me to some measurable degree.

I'm getting ready to order a 45c, so I can almost guarantee S&W will announce a Shield 45 shortly after it arrives. ;-)
