So, I'm thinking about upgrading from my M&P .40 to the .45. Other than being to different calibers; what are the main differences? I see that there are three .45 models to choose from. The 4.25 inch barrel, the 4 inch and the compact 8 round model. I'm leaning towards the 4 inch FS over the others. Does anyone see any advantages over others or vice versa?

I currently have the .40 range kit, does anyone know if the Blade-Tech holster would work for the 4 inch .45; are they the same dimensions? I probably would sell the .40 once I get the .45, so if the holster would work, I'd most likely sell just the gun and keep the kit. Or should I just keep the .40 for my collection?

Thanks guys!

I would keep the 40. Also I am looking for another 45c but they're hard to find.

Are you looking to conceal or just use the holster for range shooting? If you're not concealing it any of the sizes will work

Depends really. My FS .40 really isn't to concealable, but I like having the holster option for the range.

I think you will find that you can shoot the 45 better than the 40. The 40 is snappier and sharper recoil. I love my 9c and my 45c and can shoot them about the same. With my 40 the accuracy and speed suffered significantly. Just MHO....

That's what I'm thinking! I think I truly hate the .40 cal. because of what you stated. I'm in MA, so the stock trigger was about 9 lbs. I had it dropped to 5 by a local gunsmith and it improved slightly. I think I might shoot the rest of my target ammo and sell it! ha

yeah I just picked up a M&P 45 not too long ago from my gun dealer. Best semi-auto I own. Full size but still concealable.

I guess that depends on your mode of dress. I have the 4.25" .45ACP and I have no trouble concealing it.

They are different sizes though. I believe the .45 is just a tiny bit wider than the .40 so, it won't work perfectly with your holster. However, the holster may have enough wiggle room to fit the .45, but I wouldn't count on it.

What is the SKU# of your .40 cal?

I had the FS 45 and it was a dream to shoot. I was definitely more accurate with it than my M&P40c. I want to get one again (my brother-in-law currently has the one I used to have).

The FS 45's have a larger frame of their own compared to the FS-40 & FS-9's. FS-45's are less snappy over the 40's. Feel much better in the hand with the larger frame. The FS-45's both feel great to the hand, grips are about the same. The mid size is just a bit shorter if I remember right,it's been awhile since I shot with everything the way it is on ammo (don't want to burn my stock up:D) The 45c is better than the 40c or 9c in the hand (if you have larger hands). Unless your FS-40 holster is adjustable or well broke in,it "could" be a tight fit. I have a Blackhawk and Fobus that are both adjustable. I have one adjusted for the range that will be snug on the FS-45 and a "titch" loose on my FS-9's if I'm switching sidearms. All my sidearms do have their own holsters,I just have a couple that work for both in left and right handed. :D Keep the 40 for your collection:D You never know when it could come in handy:D I hate selling or trading an old "friend".

Grip is bigger. So frame is probably bigger too?

Yes. The FS-45 does have a larger frame than the FS-40 & FS-9.

The FS-9 was built on/off the same frame design as the FS-40. That's one reason I went with the FS-9's (not that there is anything wrong with the 40's). I figured it'd be like putting my pick-up body on a "Mack" truck frame,...so to speak.:D

Yeah, you're absolutely right. The only way I have tried carrying it is IWB and it wasn't too bad, but the grip stuck out some. I suppose if I wore it on the belt it would be better. Not sure what the SKU# is but when I pick up the .45 I'll just grab a new holster.

Financially feasible obviously, but just keep the .40, never go wrong with an extra gun. Plus if nothing else, if S does hit the F, you'll have the back-up or it'll be worth more as a bartering tool.

Yeah, I might end up just keeping it in the end. I'm trying to sell it right now locally, just so I can get some extra cash so I can buy the .45 ASAP. :D I don't like to wait for stuff! haha

Absolutely- good point! I just always feel like I have "too many" handguns. If that's a bad thing! :D

I own an 45 FS and Compact,(as well as a 9 Pro and .22LR) and all fit into the same Blackhawk Serpa CQC holster. I use this rig primarily for IDPA but some casual carry. I've tried both the belt and the paddle, paddle seems slightly less comfortable, both need a serious cover garment. I'm still looking for the perfect IWB holster for these.

If your only going to buy one pistol I'd go with the 4 inch, no paddle safety or mag disconnect, the model with a slight beavertail. I think this would be the best compromise. The FS shoots slightly easier than the compact, the compact carries better,(but they a still large handguns).

Get a few 14 round spare mags and your good.......(and keep your .40 'cause you can.)

Wish I could...I live in Communist Massachusetts. :( I'm definitely leaning toward the 4 inch FS. I don't even think the 45c is MA compliant (Of Course). This state is so silly. A move to NH looks better and better every day!

I rented the 45 FS and loved it. Just a great shooting gun!
