How accurate are they?
Hows the trigger?

I own the 9mm flavor and I am thouroughly impressed.
Front Fiber sight is awesome with the solid black notch rear.
Trigger is smoother than std models, as far as accuracy, it is far more accurate than I am capable of being.

I have been used to a G17L which is close in dimensions to the Pro.
I prefer the Pro, ergos are awesome, grip wise, gun balances very well also, the G17L tends to be muzzle heavy, for me anyway, not so with the Pro. Grip angle has alot to do with target aquisition and the M&Ps in general are faster for me, I compared the speed from holster to target and first hit with the G17L and the M&P Pro 9mm.
The Pro, for me, was consistantly faster from holster to first shot on steel at 7 yards. Average of 5 strings with the Glock was 1.37 secs. the M&P was 1.28 secs.
Not a blinding difference, but it proved a point to me.
I have been shooting Glocks for 18+ years, I am a convert to the M&P.
I love Glocks, great guns, for me however, the M&Ps have proven to be a better combo for the way I shoot.

so I kinda got off on a tangent, but to directly answer your question, the Pro in any flavor is a great, accurate and reliable gun, has been for me anyway.

M&P Pro

Love it..had the 9 for a while now and I shoot it more often than any of my other autos. Very accurate.

I have both the 4.25" and the 5" M&P Pros in 9mm.
I bought the 5" for IDPA/SSP and USPSA Production. Coming from a revolver background, the triggers are just fine for me. However, some fellow shooters who come from 1911/2011 custom single-action backgrounds practically get hysterical about the "long, sloppy, vague reset trigger" on M&Ps, and immediately make every available mod and then change the sights to match their 2011 Novaks. For them, the Pro enhancements are just thrown out anyway.

The numbers of M&Ps has grown in IDPA/SSP until they nearly match the Glocks. Ergonomics is most often cited as the main reason, and it certainly was for me. I never made friends with the "Luger" grip angle on the Glock. The M&Ps are also popular in USPSA Production along with Glocks and XPs.

As to caliber, the .40 is a stepchild in IDPA unless you load it to minor power, since you will be shooting heads up against the 9mm.
In USPSA Production, same story. In USPSA Limited and Limited 10, the .40 is an advantage for major power, but Lim and Lim10 are owned by the 2011s and you don't see many M&Ps in the top ranks. Legal to shoot the M&Ps but generally considered to be a little light.

For carry, the 4.25 barrel makes sitting easier in a vehicle, so I don't carry the 5". Both are very reliable, accurate, and easy to shoot.

I am a big fan of the M&P Pro Series. I have both the 9mm and the .40 cal with the 5" barrel. I bought the 9mm first and liked it so much I had to have the .40. If I had the knowledge I have acquired from the board before hand I probably would have bought the .40 first and used a 9mm conversion barrel but now that I have both I kinda like it.

My .40 was accurate right out of the box (after a good cleaning). I really like the FO front sight and longer sight radius the 5" barrel allows. The FO is bright and easy to pick up on target and it will put a hole where it is aimed. I was curious how recoil would affect my ability to bring the .40 back on target after shooting the 9mm but was pleasantly surprised to find that because of the ergonomics and feel of the M&P's it wasn't an issue. The only time I notice more recoil is when I really pay attention to it. To me, they shoot the same.

The trigger is nice. It breaks with a nice clean crisp snap and continues to get better the more you shoot it. I don't notice the "grittyness" of the trigger as much as some do. When shooting I release the trigger then bring it back to the break point immediately to get my next shot off. I don't feel any grittyness at all. That's not to say it isn't there (minimal at best), I just don't pay attention to it and thus, isn't an issue.

I have ~500 rounds through mine without any problems whatsoever. I shoot Remington UMC at the range and have not experienced any feed, fire or ejection problems. I have never been hit by a spent casing with ejection clean at 3-4 o'clock. I experienced some light strikes with my 9mm Pro the first couple of times I took it to the range but haven't had any problems in the last ~1000 rounds. The .40 didn't have that issue. It goes bang every time I have pulled the trigger. I have every confidence in both of these guns and would carry, or use them to protect my family and home.

Hope that helps a bit. Happy Shooting!!!

i own the 40 compact. amazing trigger. in my opinion better than glock. carries well. nail driver for a compact so i bet the 5" is even better. no reliability issues what so ever. beautiful gun.

9mm Pro: Terrible trigger and lousy sights. Other than that I love the gun. :)

Seriously, it was only worth the extra $100 to have a 5" gun. Trigger was replaced with Apex FSS and sights were swapped to Trijicon night sights. Slide was electroless nickel plated to pretty it up.

Gave this treatment to both the 5" and 4.25" and they run as smooth as silk. Couple thousand rounds month and cannot remember the last malfunction. Accuracy is great (SL barrels).

Try to find a 40 Long. Buds had them a year ago for $499 but it seems to me I have seem them on GunBroker.

Thanks for the input guys, I will now be on the look out for one. I had the full size 40 and sold it (Have hated myself ever since) to buy the compact 40 now I need A big brother for the compact and figured I would get the 5" model for the longer site radius. The compact has had the appex trigger done and tru-glo TFO's for EDC so I will leave the sites alone and hope the trigger satisfies me.
